I don't think their can be any question about wee Shaun's ability, at the age of 23 it has been said that this will probably be one of the most important contracts he will sign in his career, so in that respect i could understand why he would take a LITTLE time on agreeing a new deal! BUT come on the guy has changed agents well into negotiations which would have us believe that its money thats stalling the deal. I honestly believe that Celtic have put together a good contract and In my opinion Shaun has made up his mind to leave Celtic for MONs Villa or either get an undeserved massive contract from the board to stay . I'm totally fed up with this sort of situation at Celtic. It was the same when Big Bobo was (again in my opinion) holding the club to ransom over his contract in the January transfer window. I have never forgiven Balde for that show of disloyalty and to be quite honest would be over the moon if he never played another game for Celtic. We will all see where Shaun's loyalty lyes in January but i suspect its with his old boss.

there have been plenty of players that show tremendous potential at a young age but how many actually go on to actually make an impact. personally i think mcgeady is a better player and does more for the team with his playing style both in defence and attack.

For what? He took a player who was looking to leave and got a good fee for. Dont think he's guilty of anything else as yet.

If Maloney wants to leave i wont feel MON is guilty, but Shaun will be another Miller in my eyes.

I can see Petrov being attracted to work for MON again as he was part of old guard but that is NOT a factor with Shaun who has only flourished under WGS. Shaun would be a fool to join any club below the usual CL contenders in the EPL. I wonder too if he is stalling to see if he wins his battle with McGeady for the wide left spot as it is not clear how we will resolve that long term unless both plus Naka can somehow be played regularly together.

Can't blame Maloney for weighing up his options, I will be gutted if he leaves, but life will go on.
Personally I think the board should have had Maloney tied up to a new contract half way through last season, there seems to be no problem rewarding foreign players, but we seem to always expect our homegrown players loyalty and love of the club to be a major factor in their contract talks, I would reward Maloney with a decent contract, but it's obvious that the current offer from Celtic isn't good enough.

WGS said in after-match interview it was only a calf strain so that won't keep him out for too long

If he does not sign in January, I would drop Shaun and only play him occasionally when it suits us like MON did with Liam Miller when he didnt sign up. Otherwise, I would play McGeady with Riordan as backup. No point in playing a player who is leaving when we can be bedding in a replacement.

I would agree with that. I hope Maloney does sign and I think it would be a mistake for him not to. But if come January it is clear he is for the off then I would just leave him out altogether unless both McGeady and Riordan were injured.

Well m8, to play in the green and white Hoops.....* yeah I'd turn down millions to do that!
Take Lenny for instance..he took a wage drop to stay at Celtic, cos he loves the Hoops. Maloney could learn a thing or two about what it means to pull on the green and white jersey every week!

Sounds a bit like we are being held to ransom...not too keen on people doing their business thru the papers
I'd nearly tell him to go and * at this stage...ideas above his station for a guy who has had 1 good season at the age of 24

Think you could be on to something there Graham, unless it's purely coincidence that this is coming out days after the player got injured. On the other hand tho, if it was a serious injury we'd have heard something about it by now id imagine.

I think now we've heard both sides of the story, we can't really judge who's in the right or who's in the wrong. Not until we know what has been offered and what the players asking for.

If what this agents saying is true, then what was Lawwell's 'it's not about the money' statement all about? Its all getting a bit messy from where am standing, it better get sorted out soon.
