Remanded in custody until December (two weeks at least) is a joke for a charge like breach of the peace. Which can be things like shouting loudly at night or peeing in the street.

It's also strange that he gets remanded in custody but the Rangers player does not, wonder why??

Well for starters, getting refused bail for singing a song is an absolute joke.

Getting lifted for it is an even bigger joke!

I agree with the first bit but not the second. If he's mouthing off in some busy street he's a danger to himself and others and needs lifted.

It's an absolute cert sadly, they will be harassed more than ever.

If truth be told I can see it all kicking off in the highlands this weekend as well, not just with the GB though.

The police really seem to follow their own agenda and don't actually care for the preservation of justice. They probably go for a pint with the locals after matches at Ibr*x......

Hang your head in shame, ya wee attention seeking (for all the wrong reasons) *.

I do think even lifting someone for it is a bit out of order, but again we don't know the full circumstances.

Maybe he was a mouthy wee * to the officer not making it better on himself. But I do feel the lad adam at Rangers should have been treated the same.

I cant help but feel the fact he is part of the GB pushed the matter of remand. However could say that because he was part of the GB maybe he was over confident and mouthy.

Can't really say, but remanding someone for 2 weeks for singing a song/chating a line is excessive to say the least.

Wee bit off topic, but years ago there was a bit of a rammy going on at Parkhead, my drunk cousin thought it was a good time time to lie on an empty stretcher and get my pal and another guy to carry him round the track, while he waved to the cheering fans like the Pope.
Him and my pal got remanded for a fortnight, then fined a tenner each. :56:

On the 29th of October, 2000 Celtic fans came together in Glasgow’s George Square to hold a very successful and peaceful rally against the SNP’s anti-Football Bill. They listened to speakers from the Fans Against Criminalisation campaign detail how the Bill criminalises football fans and the Celtic support, and how dangerous it would be to extend the law to give even more powers to the police.

After the rally, fans then proceeded on to Celtic Park. Along the way they picked up a heavily-manned police escort, complete with helicopter. Inside the stadium there was a further show of opposition against the Offensive Behaviour at Football Bill, with over 100 supporters clubs displaying banners against the Bill and in support of Fans Against Criminalisation.

While the campaign could call on the overwhelming support of Celtic fans, Strathclyde Police clearly were not on message. Fans arriving at the stadium after the protest were greeted with a warning from a senior police officer: ‘you aren’t above the law, we are the law’. During the following 90 minutes and the fortnight since, the police have tried to prove their point. Although we are used to petty harassment from police and constantly being under video surveillance at matches, we were surprised to see a far larger than usual police presence in 111 – there were reportedly 20 officers in and around the stairwell in front of our section.

The match was pretty uneventful – goalless on the park and nothing out of the ordinary off it until the last 7 or 8 minutes of the game. Then, Strathclyde Police made their move. Hand-held cameras in place, they attempted to arrest someone within the section but many fans did not take kindly to their attempts to charge into a crowd and held off police who were pushing and shoving them. The police retreated empty-handed but after the match they again tried to apprehend someone as fans were walking out of the stadium. This time their (again, unsuccessful) attempts saw a young girl barged over and a crush was only narrowly avoided. The operation was clearly pre-planned: it was the first time in two seasons that the police have entered the rows of our section, it happened on the same day as Celtic fans held a successful demonstration against the criminalisation of our support and as we later found out, preceded a police complaint to the SPL delegate about ‘offensive chanting’. It seems that Strathclyde Police are Alex Salmond’s boot boys.

A few days after the Hibs match, reps from the Celtic Supporters Association and Celtic Trust met with Ronnie Hawthorn, Celtic’s Operations Manager, to discuss their concerns about the behaviour of the police. They requested a meeting with Eddie Smith, the match commander who had directed the police’s operation. At previous meetings with Smith (ironically enough, about safety issues), Smith told both the CSA and Trust that he welcomed dialogue with fans. Not this time, however, as Smith refused to meet the fan representatives. The CSA and Trust then wrote to his boss, Chief Superintendent Wayne Mawson, asking for a meeting. Unlike Smith, Mawson said he would be happy to meet but that he would not be willing to discuss the events of the 29th. Unsurprisingly, his offer was turned down.

Since then, Eddie Smith has made official complaints to SPL and UEFA match delegates about ‘offensive chanting’ by the Celtic support at the Hibs game and the subsequent match at home to Rennes. Smith is also the Crown’s main witness in a case against two of our members, both charged with a sectarian breach of the peace for unfurling a banner containing the word ‘huns’ (the only other witness is a member of Celtic’s security staff, himself a former police officer). The SPL and UEFA investigations prompted by his complaints will be conducted while the Scottish Parliament debates and votes on the anti-Football Bill, and will no doubt be covered at length by the media. We doubt this is a coincidence. Already, the propaganda war has begun – today the back page of Glasgow’s local rag carries, under a lurid headline, comments from a publicity-hungry QC close to the Celtic board who calls on us to be banned. It seems he has joined the ranks of the legal establishment who are determined to take a boot at our group and the wider Celtic support.

At 7 am on Friday morning, a 17 year-old fan was arrested on suspicion of a sectarian breach of the peace, and for evading arrest at the Hibs match. He spent the weekend in police cells and yesterday appeared at the Sheriff Court. After the Procurator Fiscal appealed the judge’s decision to grant bail, the young fan was remanded in custody in Polmont Young Offenders Institute until December 23rd. You haven’t misread that – that’s a 17-year-old Celtic fan locked up for allegedly singing a song that Eddie Smith finds offensive.

Celtic fans, and ourselves in particular, are under attack from the government and the police, who are determined to criminalise us for their own ends. We really appreciate the support we have had already, and we will be considering our next actions carefully over the coming days and weeks. In the meantime, we call on all Celtic fans to oppose the criminalisation of our support and to unite behind the Fans Against Criminalisation campaign. <!-- google_ad_section_end -->

its actually sickening whats happening to our support, And its even worse our board are doing absolutely nothing about it. And find it even harder to believe some people on here think our fans are in the wrong for singing certain songs. Its fast becoming a dark period in our once proud history.:54:

interesting turn of events . unfortunately this is standard police harassment and like you say , they are becoming the boot boys. its time our fans were fully united against the criminalisation of our support. it annosy me that there are a percentage of our fans now claiming to be ashamed or unwilling to sing the symphony or tbotob ....i have never once seen a real life objection to these songs from a celtic fan and would hate to be in the pub having a chant and for someone to pipe up against it . but is that teh way its heading ? i hope not . its time to forget this pc bullshit and enjoy the songs we have alwasy enjoyed. A 17 year old Celtic Fan in Jail for singing a song that a policeman found offensive and this is before the new legislation is enacted.
17 or 67 you could be next, two weeks in prison and a 5 year football banning order before you face a trial (thats if you ever do) for singing a song.
Its wrong and we dont need a debate on what should or shouldnt be sung at football grounds to know that.
We need to support this bhoy and make sure he isnt stitched up even further, if they can do this under the current legislation we will all be easy targets for the Polis under the new act.
The need for Fans Against Criminalisation campaign is surely our rallying point to voice our opposition to all thats going on we need to stand together and show the powers that be we will not accept being criminalised.

    Great post.

Celtic are a shower of spineless * for the lack of any statement after the harassment which took place during the Hibs game. It's pathetic, and their silence is as good as condoning it IMO.

This is when the section needs the support of the wider celtic support more than ever. Seen this post on the Green Brigade forum which I thought was spot on.

Guys I really feel for you's today, I have publicly backed you's from day one for what you wanted to do at match days and back the team to the hilt.

My concern is your days are numbered from now on even more than they have been, I hear they film your area from two locations inside CP no doubt to gather evidence to be used at some stage in court cases, I hear they have sent out warning letters to those of 111 ( I think it's two warnings now).

You's guys should of been backed to the hilt by the full support within CP, our fans should of been making it hard for the polis to concentrate just on your area as they should of been busy in every area of the ground.

Far to many within our home support are only look forward to listening to you's at home games in the knowledge that they are safe from hassle, yet these same * greet if their was no noise, they are also the same ones who run about worrying about "our good name" scared to upset anyone but only to willing to let others do it as long as they enjoy their match day atmosphere.[IMG]

These same ones will leave you high and dry when it comes down to the nitty gritty of the battle, what you's need now more than any other time is unity within the support to back you's up from every stand, everyone should stand up at home games, an GB banner should be displayed in every stand (just to send a message out, and confuse the polis) and send a message out.

"Let the People Sing, their stories and their songs"

I really hope you's get this backing as you deserve it. [IMG]

    Good luck

I am absolutely disgusted with comments from Celtic fans on this forum about singing IRA "*" and unbelievably from one * who states "* the IRA" .I'm not going into the whole debate again. All Iwill say is ,if these are the type of people who are now in the majority of Celtic fans then I wont be back.
I have followed Celtic for over 40 years and these songs are,and have been part of being a celtic fan. They were sung long before I attended games.
I agree the PIRA chants must stop, although they are few and far between.
Do these ignorant * not realise the Provisionals war in Ireland has been over for years and that members of that movement are now in positions in the government .That part is now history and that history is and always will be a part of many Celtic supporters
To all these ones that hate the IRA and the songs, why dont you stand up at away matches and shout people down.I dare anyone to stand up at Inverness and shout * the IRA. No dont think so!
I have 2 season books and attend every match home and away and in europe and have run supporters clubs and buses for years but I will not be renewing those books next season......Totally Disgusted with Tims on here!
