I think that was the moment many boys of my age group grew up.

I watched Star Wars episode iv last night, first time seeing one. Thought it was quite good, anybody else watch them?

Going to watch the next one in 20 minutes and maybe even the other one after that.

Voted IV a new hope.Remember watching it when it first came out and thinking it was the best movie i had ever seen, the other 2 original ones are equally as good.Fave moment when Princess Leah strangles Jim Traynor with that chain.:smiley-laughing002:

Think a few are taking the *.

I was a kid when the new ones came out, as well, but they're not even contenders. ESB is the best sequel ever!

LOTR's trilogy was made with all the latest CGI technology available today,if it was made in 1977 when Star Wars was made it would have been balls. For a film like Star Wars to be made in the 70's was revolutionary and way way ahead of its time.Which is why i think the Star Wars trilogy will last the test of time better.Plus they're better movies.:bbpd:

Star wars is grossly over rated. 17 oscars from 3 films cleary suggests LOTR is vastly superior. Which it is.

Its all about how old you were when said films were released i think. If we were to put up a poll between the 2 trilogies i would guarantee that all the Star wars voters would be 30+ and LOTR voters would be early 20's or younger.

Star Wars 2nd biggest earning movie franchise behind Harry Potter,LOTR way behind in 10th place, just behind The Twilights saga films.Bums on seats in cinema says it all.

LOTR are very good movies, but Star Wars has become a cult, even a religion in some places.

The original trilogy has never been surpassed. A genuinely believable galaxy, properly lived in, a classic story, great take on some traditional archetypes and brilliant original characters.

Plus Chewie defies the character trope:50:

    Really tells you nothing.

As the poster tried to explain to you, SW revolutionised film-making. What has LOTR done to the film industry?

A toss up between IV and V for me, but I've got to hand it to the film that kicked it all off.

    The prequel trilogy is naff.

Nah, the Godfather is the best trilogy. It even won 9 awards from the Oscars, back when they didn't give them out like blue ribbons, as well, but that is beside the point.

LOTR's has barely had any effect whatsoever on the industry, and it's been around long enough to see if it was going to have any kind of an impact. However, SW gave way to huge strides in terms of technology, light and sound, production, (giving way to huge companies like Industrial Light & Magic, Skywalker Sound, etc.), and so on.

Not to mention the cultural impact - holy *, where do you end?
