Massimo Donati saved Celtic from a certain failure to advance in the Champions League with a goal in the dying seconds in Celtic's match against the Ukrainian side shakhtar donetsk.

The game started with an early goal conceded by Celtic which was an early Christmas present from Kennedy to Brandao. Tradgedy stuck Celtic again in the first half when defensive starters John Kennedy and Lee Naylor both were stretchered off the field and replaced. Just before halftime break Jiri Jarosik leveled the score at 1-1 with a goal.

After halftime break the game was plagued with the ukrainian's diving and the resulting free kicks until the stoppage time of the match when Massimo Donati hit the ball and it flew into the back netting giving Celtic a 2-1 victory and putting in their own hands the chance to advance to the knockout stage....

Celtic triumphed over Portuguese Giants Benfica by the score of 1-0. The first half started with both sides getting more than their share of chances. Then in the dying seconds of the first half the Irish international Aiden McGeady hit an amazing strike that hit a Benfica player before rolling into the back netting. A well deserved goal for McGeady who was all over the pitch on this November night. The second half showed Celtic were truly the better team and besides a few Benfica chances, Celtic dominated it. The game concluded with a horrific tackle on Celtic's Scott Brown that resulted in a red card being shown to Benfica's Binya. Scott Brown was later replaced by Sno. After four nervous minutes in injury time Celtic celebrated their 1-0 win and their 6 points in Champions League group play.
