Great performance from the youngsters so far, Well have already had to make a substitution to try and counter Celtic's play.

 

That's what I like to hear..

Seemed to be up against it most of the second half but still a good win that puts us 4 points off top place with 3 games in hand.

 

A DOMINANT first-half performance saw Celtic record a 3-2 victory over Motherwell in the SPFL Development League.

Goals from PJ Crossan either side of Mark Hill’s strike gave the young Celts a 3-0 lead at the break which proved enough to earn three points despite a fightback from the away side in the second-half.

Celtic attacked from the off and had an early claim for a penalty turned down by the referee. Following some strong work on the right edge from Sam Wardrop, Regan Hendry was challenged in the box but referee Matthew McDermid waved away the protests.

Hendry then had a great chance to give the Bhoys the lead. Calvin Miller burst into the box before playing the ball across goal. Hendry calmly controlled the ball but fired his shot wide of the far post.

Motherwell winger Elliott Frear then tested the Celtic defence, first forcing a good save Aidan McAdams before seeing a long-range effort nearly make its way into the top corner.

The Hoops claimed their first goal of the evening in the 19th minute. A defensive error allowed Crossan to seize possession in the final third, and he sent a low shot into the bottom corner of the Motherwell goal.

That advantage was doubled six minutes later when Hill collected a loose ball on the edge of the area. The midfielder’s shot deflected off a Motherwell defender and nestled into the same corner as Crossan’s opener.

It should have been 3-0 to the Celts shortly after. Hill’s curling free-kick went just wide moments before Michael Johnston blazed over from the edge of the six-yard area.

The hosts eventually claimed the third just after the half-hour mark when Crossan headed home from Wardrop’s inviting delivery into the box. Hill went close again in the 37th minute with his shot from 18-yards going just over the crossbar.

Motherwell swiftly reduced the deficit after the restart from a penalty. Hill fouled Jake Hastie in the box and the Motherwell forward converted from the spot to make it 3-1.

The first good chance of the second spell for the Celts was created by Johnston. The winger surged into the Motherwell box but saw his shot saved by Oliver Pain.

Celtic continued to dominate, with Johnston causing problems from the left and Jack Aitchison having a low shot saved in the 66th minute.

Motherwell winger Elliott Frear forced McAdams into action before Jacob Blythe grabbed the visitors’ second goal, the striker nodding home from a corner in the 78th minute, but Tommy McIntyre's side held firm to claim the spoils.
