On the beach today with Jasmine my Boxer Dog daughter and a loud calling bird flew above and torwards and past me,it was a cool female Peregrine with a Jackdaw in her talons, mobbed by several Herring Gulls.

Also watching us were a male and female Grey Seal really close in.The wind is a strong south south west going south west,by Tuesday it looks set to be a strong North West Wind,so hopefully some quality sea watching will take place,Skua and petrel time!

Lately Autumn here in North Wales is in full swing, numerous Jays collecting acorns,Sparrowhawks busy hunting the novice small birds born this year and you can hear cool migrating Redwings overhead at night.

6 weeks tomorrow sees old Cidermaster and Jasmine begin our 2 week Winter Highland assault!

No mygirlmaria the nearest winter populations of any note are 30 miles away or more, but in Autumn and winter we get small numbers visiting.
Mind you in just over 5 weeks time i will be near Kingussie in the Highlands where there are scores of these cool Swans on the Marshes. Also there is a tleast 1 Snowy Owl on the tops at the moment.

Going out to my truck this morning and looked up, there were about 6 crows having a go at a bald eagle. The crows here are pretty big but this thing dwarfed them

Fellow I work with bought a new car a month ago, and, when he'd only had it a couple of days, as he was driving it home from work ran into three kangaroos who raced across the road in front of him and buckled the front of his car. The kangaroos hopped away, harmed but still mobile. It happens all the time. You don't even see them coming, they just dash out of the grass in front of you. All over Australia, away from the cities, the sides of the roads are usually littered with kangaroo carcasses, particularly when there's a drought and the only green grass is in the table drains besides the roads. Wombats are even worse. They're dark coloured and nocturnal, and you can't see them at night. The best ones are goannas; they're big lizards that look gigantic when they cross the road in front of your car, but they move slowly, and people generally have time to slow down and swerve out of their way. Are bald eagles still rare? It wasn't so long ago they were almost extinct. Where did this happen, USA or Canada? HH

Climbed Schiehalion on Saturday and saw a flock of around a dozen ptarmigan nearly into their winter plummage just off the summit. Had only ever seen a couple before that.
