went into a shed at home this morning at back of 8 and disturbed an owl. Actually seen 3 in last 10 days in 3 different sheds. Not sure if its the same one cause the * doesn't hang about for a chat but beautiful bird with surprisingly big wingspan. Will try and get a photo this week

While out with Ruby Boxer this morning i saw a cool Spotted Flycatcher doing what it does best catching and eating insects on my local patch.Has anyone else noted this summer large numbers of biting insects are around this summer.

PS Last Tuesday a cool Peregrine flew over my garden while having a family BBQ,Harvey my 10 year old nephew was delighted to see it.Also last week i got a good view of one of the local Green Woodpeckers on my local patch.

My daughter came rushing in last night. She visited Richmond Park, near Shawfield Greyhound Track. The park has a pond where Mute Swans, Mallards, various types of Gulls, Coots and Moorhens live. In the surrounding woodlands and trees and bushes you can see Bullfinch, Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Mistle and Song Thrush.
She'd seen a Swan that looked very different to the Mute Swans there. It's bill was black. She said it just looked out of the ordinary. We looked up to see what type of Swan it was . The only one we saw which came close was a Tundra Swan, or a Whistling Swan, which are sub-species of Bewick Swans . Very very rare in Scotland, but not impossible. I went to see if I could see it too, but it was away.
We're not confirming a new bird on our LIFE list, but it looks promising.

On Friday on my local patch the resident male Green Woodpecker and 3 Great Spotted Woodpeckers showed really well.2 Swifts were still hanging around, most have now long gone.
This morning a family party of 5 Mistle Thrush were very active.

On the Beach this morning with Ruby Boxer a cool female Peregrine called as she flew overhead,an * Great Backed Gull stood with menace on a rock, sometimes you forget how big these brutes are, huge axe like bills, with a five foot wingspan..Also 2 still in near summer plumage Turnstones were noted.
As Autumn is ever so close keep an eye out for migrant birds, large numbers of many species will soon be on the move.
