So this little guy came to my doorstep this morning. He has had his ear bitten off in the forest I would assume. Coati

On Thursday morning i confirmed at least 14 Hawfinch on my local patch,a population of true National importance.Yesterday i walked past the fine ancient wooded area and 2 local Big Shot birders had acted on my info and they too confirmed a minimum of 14 Hawfinch. They are going to ring them at some point. And we have decided to keep the info out of the Public eye to avoid disturbance.
Funny enough the top sight for Hawfinch in North Wales is in the Conwy Valley,i found that sight aswell back in 2000,and that is very well known now,so the public can carry on going there. That same day i found that Hawfinch sight back in 2000 i also found a Great grey Shrike in a lonely valley above the village where i found that Hawfinch stronghold.I remember getting within 20 feet of the Shrike, watched it for 40 minutes, saw it catch a vole and impale it on Thorns, one of my classic birding days.
Equally funny enough 6 days before that i had found a previous Great Grey Shrike in a North East Wales Forest which is became one of the main wintering spots for Great Grey Shrike in Wales, not bad for a nutter!!!

Love Blackcaps mate. RE Shrike, only ever seen one, that was at Muirshell Country Park. Only saw it for a couple of minutes, but same as urself, a truly great Birding day. We also saw a Hen Harrier fighting a Raven that day too.

Today I saw two dead Badgers and a dead Rat . They were road kill , I spotted them on a trip in the borders ( I was attending Kelso races ) . The first Badgers I've seen for years . At work earlier this week I saw some Bullfinches perching by a burn . The pink breast colouring really showed up on a dull and grey day .

Seen 8 magpies flying round and perching on trees at my work few days ago, never seen that many at once before. Foxes where screeching earlier up the hills behind my house, such an annoying noise especially at half 1 in the morning when they are on the street.

Mygirlmaria , to answer your question about my trip to Kelso Races ; I suffered a small loss on my betting . It cost me only £8.00 to get in ( £5.00 off due to my Racegoers Club membership voucher ) and the race card cost £2.00 . A real bargain IMO .

Went camping the other week, had a cool wee encounter with a seal which followed us as we walked down the beach for 10 mins before disappearing. Was quite a secluded beach, thinking it was probably young and curious and maybe hadn't had much human interaction.

Seen what I believe to be a Wedge-tailed eagle. Had an encounter with a huge one while driving from a mine I was on to the nearest town, thing swooped right in front of the ute. Wingspan is incredible!

Best part was a shark that came in real close, we were fishing so had probably attracted it in with the bait/berley in the water. Was probably under 2m, hard to tell what type.

Saw a solitary Roo, which seemed strange. Turned out the area we set up camp was a bee conservation area, woke up the next day with swarms of bees around all the empty beer bottles etc, pretty hairy.

Pretty good trip for wildlife. Next camp trip will be down south for Salmon season, that's when you're most likely to see (or worse not see) a 20ft White Pointer, feet will remain dry.
