Very quiet on my local patch of late. On Tuesday on my local beach 20 Sandwich Tern knocking about, soon they will be gone to warmer waters. That afternoon a dozen or so House Martin were busy hawking for insects.
Yesterday morning 9 Swallow called and flew over my garden and off into the distance,no doubt total migration on their minds. One Wheatear passed through on the local headland.
And this morning a Chiffchaff called in my garden.

This afternoon a dozen or so Gannets were busy fishing just off my local Beach while Ruby Roo Boxer went crackers with her Bally!

Thank you Johnboy. This summer it has been brood after brood of goldfinches. I like the photo with the young goldfinches and the bullfinches - it was like the bullfinches were looking after them. Great the way this just bop along together.

I like to think that the bullfinches were telling the Goldfinch to listen to the latest Slipknot or Metallica album, as I call Bullfinch 'wee Heavy Metal Birds'. I think they look as tough as *. I HAVE been called mad on many occasions.

Great pictures there Red,you've a great variety coming to your feeders,my feeders tend to get a few regular breeds,i don't know if it's because I live in town on a busy main road but my "regulars" are sparrows by the dozen, the odd blue * pair, the very odd goldfinch pair, starlings, crows, jackdaws and the local feral doos who wait on the ground for the discarded seeds but sometimes they will make an attempt at the feeders but they're just too big and clumsy to get what they're after.
I bought a bag of niger seed and a feeder today to see if I can attract some new finches and * to the feeders.

Johnie, that's an impressive range of visitors you have. This summer has been a good one in our garden. We have always had blackbirds, robins, doves, magpies and blue * but this year we have got greenfinches, chaffinches, bullfinches, great *, goldfinches and their numerous broods, hedge sparrows who hop in to get discarded seeds and my wife's favourite, goldcrests. We also got that sparrowhawk and BFL's hooded crow. The big difference this year has been that we have been putting sunflower hearts in the feeders. Took them a couple of days to catch on but it's been non stop all summer.

Give it a try Johnie. We found the regular seed a bit hit and miss but definitely, the sunflower hearts have gone down well. We have one feeder of just niger seeds but it wasnt as popular. It needed refilled once for every 3 sunflower hearts.

A wee newcomer squirrel today, much more inexperienced than the usual one and a great hop on him. Mainly goldfinches again today, parents and youngsters. We also had a pair of goldcrests in the rowan and conifers but they are the "Jinky" of birds, way too elusive and quick to get pictured.
