If he was willing to take a fair wage like the rest of the squad I wouldn’t be against him joining.

Not too bothered if he signs or not, but there were/are people here * themselfs about defoe signing for the huns, yet think toure would flop? They've both played * all football the last year and the year before they were both *, what makes toure different?

Grand old team to play for
So if he took a fair wage and signed for 6 months with an option for us to extend then I'd be happy to sign him. Get him up to speed and see if he's still got it.

There's no comparison between him Vs Defoe or Davis. All Defoe has ever won was the English League Cup. Davis has only won Scottish competitions.

    Here's Yaya's list of titles:
    Olympiacos

    Barcelona

    Manchester City

    Ivory Coast

And..... Yes, he can play CB. He did it in a Champions League final and ended the night holding the trophy. Not sure about RB though ;)

Is there any truth in this, surprised Sky picked it up asking him right out??

There's probably loads of football stars that are mad keen to play for us and then the reality of how much we're offering hits 'em

Yaya's legs are gone. Far from the required standard at Olympiakos.

Celtic are set to pass up the chance to sign Yaya Toure despite the Ivory Coast legend leaving the door open for a possible move to Parkhead.

Record Sport understands the Premiership champions are not interested offering the 35-year-old former Manchester City midfielder the chance to hook up with brother and Hoops coach Kolo.

Toure sparked talk of joining Celtic when he refused to rule out a deal when a guest on Sky Sports’ Monday Night football.

He said: “Celtic are a great team, but I will speak to Brendan Rodgers there and we will see what happens.”

But sources at the club have confirmed no deal for the midfield powerhouse is in the pipeline as boss Rodgers is chasing targets in other positions.

In this they also state we're still targeting omar elabdellaoui, and that we've not bid for Mckenna

No comparison at all between Toure and Defoe/Davis. Yes Toure is 35 but his career has been head and shoulders above both of them, he is on a totally different level to Stephen Davis and Defoe. Jermain Defoe couldn't get a game for a poxy little club like Bournemouth and Stephen Davis couldn't get a game for Southampton who currently have Shane Long up front who scored his first goal in two years on Saturday. Personally I think he would be brilliant as he has experience in big games and especially in Europe and I think we are a bit naive in Europe. Our other players will learn and develop playing and training alongside someone like Yaya Toure with his experience and knowledge of the game. It is a massive definite from me.

Any 'comparison' for me would more be about fitness reasons.

Defoe has always kept himself in shape and Davis isn't done yet. Toure has never had a great work ethic even in his prime. Have seen a good few comments about his time and Greece suggesting he's completely done.

Glad to see there's nothing to this. These type of ageing marquee signings never work for us.

The only thing I want from the club, is that after he came out publicly on Monday, we better have at least * gave him a call and sounded him out.

If he was asking for wages way beyond us, fair enough. If he didn't sound like he has kept himself motivated, equally fair enough. We move on.

But by * when a player of that quality states he would play for us and leaves the door wide open, we better at least make the contact and ask a few questions.

Conversely Yaya Toure was world class for a decade, neither Davis or Defoe have been world class for a day.

Toure was playing in the Champions League for Man City last year, Davis has played 96 minutes in the Premiership this season and Defoe 21 yet it's Toure lack of game time that's the issue...

Not sure how I feel about this, the main part of his game was power and running at teams.

I don’t think he has that anymore, on the plus side he could boost moral in the side having someone with all that experience in the team.

If he was signed for a short term thing till the end of the season in next to nothing wages then maybe.

Think that’s more down to attitude and applying himself though. You don’t just lose the quality he had in a couple of year. If he came here and was willing to get/stay fit and put in the effort, I’d have him easy.
