France won the World Cup but they are not the best team.

 

I hate Pogba so much. He individually sums up practically all that's currently wrong with football.
Modric is football class personified. Best player on the pitch today by a * country mile.
Mbappe was * poor for a lot of the tournament.
Rakitic too, he had a terrible tournament. I would use Rakitic as a competitive to Messi internationally to explain why I believe Ronaldo to be the better player. Ronaldo individually can lift a whole team whereas I believe Messi (while a genius) needs brilliance around him to shine.
Var as it was used this tournament was not a success. It was a * mess.
It has also proved that an individual timekeeper separated from the ref is needed. Stop the clock every corner, goal kick & free.
Overall it was an ok tournament, in my lifetime 82, 94, 98 & 06 were far better, enjoyed some if it but mostly hated the diving / time wasting cynicism.
Oh, and those pitch invaders are *.

 

VAR was a resounding success and it was a penalty. Got to laugh at the comments saying the ref ruined the game.

 

Sorry mate, but I have to disagree,the Croatian fella was caught out entirely and imo it was totally accidental.
There was no deliberate attempt by him to block the cross and the ref should have took that into consideration.
That aside,it's been a great WC,lots of great games and excitement and Quatar will do well to get anywhere near as Russia for entertainment.

 

I was pretty surprised too. He did not deliberately move the hand to the ball, he raised his leg and his hand was next to his thigh. He just misjudged it and it missed his thigh and hit his hand. Also there was another Croatian defender right behind him so even if he missed it then it would not had been going to to French player or at goal.

 

I think the thing with the penalty was, it was heading straight across the 6 yard box, if Perisic doesn’t touch it it could have been a clear goal scoring chance, as it’s come off his hand the refs gave a pen for stopping a clear chance at goal. * decision but that’s the only logic I can think of.

 

Our commentator, and the analyst team in Zagreb did not see much issue in the penalty call- the commentator feared immediately it'd be given. There was more fuss about the foul preceding the 1. French goal. It was a soft contact, according to these analysts. Yeah, bias. But it's interesting how the penalty is a lesser issue for them than the circumstances of the first goal.

Handballs don’t need to be deliberate for a penalty to be given and a study showed VAR had increased the percentage of fouls called correctly, that’s a resounding success to me.

 

Have to agree with this. Mind, I want VAR to be expanded to cover situations that have led to goals. The foul for the free kick of France which gave them the 1. goal was soft contact.

 

Can't help but think Croatia were hard done by for Frances first 2 goals. And as a result lost the game. If they really want to stamp out diving in the game, behaviour like griezmans to "win" the foul should be dealt with retrospective punishment. It's blatant cheating at the highest level. Disgusting. I though football was supposed to be a contact sport. It's turning into a game for pansies, with very few honest professionals. The ref had the benefit of VAR for the handball and still got the decision incorrect. I'd like to see refs miked up like in rugby or American football, then at least if we did not agree with their decision we would still hear their thoughts behind it.

If he tried to deliberately handle the ball,yes,that wasnt deliberate under any circumstances whatsoever.

 

I don't think there was 1 player booked for diving the entire tournament.the thing that is ruining the game was not addressed at all by the refs or var
