    I just love this quote from McGrory. Only someone with an extraordinary talent could come out with it.

    "My mind was set on scoring goals," the great man himself told The Observer in 1971. "I got into positions from which I could head or shoot. When the ball did come, I did not have to waste any time. I hit it. I see players trying to control and manoeuvre the ball when it comes to them, then looking up to see what they are going to do with it. They waste so much time."

    It's half time in Real's final match of the season and Ronaldo is now just 5 goals short of Jimmy McGrory's record.
    After today he has just the small matter of the Champions League final to score another 6 goals to beat his record this season.

    Scored 5 in the Copa America and has the semi final against USA then possible final to catch up a little more.

    I was reading up on him and apparently he could run 100m in 10.8 seconds, and was a bit of a performer before the matches. Fans used to come to the stadium before the game and pay money to watch him train as he would put bottles on the cross bar and hit them with the ball. Must have been * hot. Played mainly for Slavia Prague. Surprised I haven't heard more about the guy.

    Ronaldo has now equalled Jimmy McGrory's competitive goal scoring record of 550 goals.
    I think he will easily make it to 6th in that list this season.
    The way Messi is playing i think he will also overtake McGrory's record this season.

    After first half against Dortmund Ronaldo has moved ahead of jimmy McGrory and is now on 551 competitive goals and is only 1 behind Eusebio.

    In just competitive goals Christiano Ronaldo can now be considered the greatest ever Portuguese goal scorer with 557 goals he is now 5 competitive goals ahead of Eusebio.
    Although Eusebio has scored more goals overall that tally includes non competitive matches.

    I think Ronaldo will achieve 6th place, possibly before Chistmas but definitely this season but it will take some going to get above the great Gerd Muller who in 5th place is currently 173 goals ahead of Ronaldo.
