Well Ruby Boxer really has settled in well of course, been with me since 14th June, but i get a bit paranoid about her getting ill, probably because i lost Jasmine Boxer back in March,i keep thinking she will get Lungworm or Ticks will giver her a disease or she will get ill anyway, never really feared Lungworm until now.
Maybe i am over protective but i do love her so much.:84:

Do you get a lot of slugs? I keep an eye out for them because I'm terrified of Brody getting lungworm.

Yes i am terrified of lungworm as well good pal,i get a good few slugs in mild and warm weather,i move them on,luckily Jasmine had no interest in them nor does Ruby. But most dogs eat grass from time to time and that is when they can digest small ones by accident. Also try not to leave toys out on the lawn at night, but them out of reach of slugs because their trail can carry the dreaded disease.
Luckily many slugs do not carry the disease and it is still fairly rare, there is a National Lungworm sight which has a map of reports and details of the symptoms, learning the symptoms is key here. But that said it is long odds against it happening, thank *,but i do fear it as you do.
Also always check your dogs for Ticks, touch wood i have never found any, tell you what you can crack up with all the things they could get:31:

Yeah I know the site you're on about. Not many cases of it near me but I still made a point of ridding the garden of them as much as I could.

I've only noticed one insect on Brody so far but we got rid of it then gave him a flea treatment just in case.

We should be okay pal we love our Dogs as much as it is possible so we would notice if they had anything wrong with them, and when you act quick things like Lungworm and Tick problems can be easily taken care of.I have a year plan health contract at Pets At Home and they supply advocate anti flea and other pests as well as anti worm.I am switching to one that does Ticks as well and on Ruby's next visit i am going to ask about the best way to treat lungworm.
I suppose it is the same as having children,if you sat down and thought what could happen or whay they could get,you would never let them out your sight, love and caring is very strong.

I have just put Ruby Boxer on Milquantel,a tablet taken every 3 months that protects against all worms including the dreaded lungworm, also she is now on Bravecto, another tablet taken every 3 months that prevents fleas and ticks:50:
I feel alot better now,the good news she shows no interest in slugs, and it is still very rare here on the North Wales coast.

Article in the news today about a beagle being ripped apart in a park in Manchester, by two pitbull type dogs. Pitbull owner tried to blame the dog walker by asking why it wasn't on a leash. Surely the owner can get jail time too?

What a piece of scum that owner is,just read about it,it is so important to be aware of what type of dogs are around when you are taking your dog out.I am always wary of certain breeds and avoid them like the plague. If that happened to me i honestly think i would kill that man,but like i said i avoid dogs like that, luckily this kind of horrible thing is very very rare in my area.
Always good to know the areas you walk your dog very well and always have eagle eye what is going on because there is a number of total scumbags that do own dogs out there.

I'm definitely in the train of thought that it's how the dogs are trained, but I've got to admit there are certain breeds I'd avoid too.

Yes you are spot it is largely how the dog is trained, and that is the trouble, when total dickheads own dogs,or indeed bring up children. But yes just like you there are certain breeds i do not trust and never will. What it largely comes down to is to be as aware as possible when you are out and about with your dog.Of course that said dogs, indeed people have been attacked by dogs when they have done everything right,we can only try our best. But surely there must be stiffer punishments for scumbags like the one you highlighted yesterday.

I've since moved out but my maw has a wee staffy mongrel, Reuben. Wee pain in the *, always all up in your grill barking and jumping, someone shuts a car door a mile down the road and he will be barking for hours. Can't even walk him because he just tries to go for other dogs.
For all his being a pain in the *,he's just recently been diagnosed with lymphoma and is going downhill rapidly. It's a wee sin.

It's definitely down to the owners most of the time.

My next door neighbour has a Staffie and it's a gorgeous wee dug. Wouldn't harm a fly and always comes up to you for a clap.

In the past I'd heard bad things about them as a breed but I know a few people now with them and if treated well they make excellent family pets.

My wee staffie is my bundle of joy, we got him from a litter as a puppy so he's really been brought up as our wain.
