Best boxing match I have ever seen was between Gerald McLellan and "The Dark Destroyer" Nigel Benn. It was a true toe to toe, punch for punch slugfest. Like a Rocky movie, sadly Gerald McLellan suffered brain damage the brutality was that punishing. Check it on you tube if you've not seen it.

That whole period for boxing in general was excellent, Hagler, Tommy Hearns , Sugar Ray etc. brilliant times.

Would never claim to have a great knowledge of boxing and will possibly get slaughtered for this but for purely sentimental reasons I'd like to give an honourable mention to Steve Collins in this period. I have great memories of myself, my brother and my da watching those fights and listening to the Fields of Athenrye being belted out during them.

Great fighter effectively ended the careers of Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn, may be wrong but I think he was unbeaten in his career.

I watched on TV not actually there in person but Gatti vs Ward all three fights they had were good, just crazy how both continued to trade after taking so many body shots.

I loved the Froch v Groves fights as well, the build up was great, and to see Froch own fans boo him at the end to his amazement was funny. Groves was never the same after those fights.

I love this fight as well.

Before my time but I've never seen anything close to the ferocity of Tyson at his peak against Spinks, I don't think anyone ever would survive that round against Tyson.

Tyson's entrance song was was the most intimidating entrance ever I think Spinks has lost the fight even before Tyson had entered to ring.

We were spoiled for great fights in the 90's. British boxing had a sort of golden age in the middleweight and super middleweight divisions with Benn and Eubank and a bit later Ireland's Steve Collins, tons of great fights involving those guys. The heavyweight division was fairly competitive with Tyson, Holyfield and Lennox Lewis, again some great fights. The late 90's and early 00's had fighters like Ward, Gatti, Barrera, Morales and Pacquiao. I kind of drifted away from watching boxing after those fighters either retired or were past their best, only the rise of Joshua has peaked my interest again.

Agreed, also had Hearns, Hagler, Leonard and "Hands of Stone" Boxing always throws up these wee periods, just think maybe to many Championships on offer. WBA, WBC, WBO, WBF, IBO, IBF think I've missed a couple but you see where I'm going wi it. Agree wi AJ on he scene.
