So you're saying Celtic agreed to pay money plus Christie for Hayes despite McInnes clearly saying there that Celtic don't want to sell Christie?

Probably less to do with their offers etc and more to do with the fact that £1m + Christie for Hayes would have been a terrible bit of business for us.

Quite happy to have Hayes but didn't want Christie going permanently..and I'm not even sold on him having a long term future here! It just wouldn't have made sense.

Good money + one of the top scottish prospects for a soon to be 30 year old..nice try Deek.

No I'm saying Celtic expressed an interest in Hayes and made an opening bid then Aberdeen requested Christie be part of the deal. A counter-bid in effect.

That's why I said it's ambiguous the way he's worded it. How could we agree a fee but simultaneously reject a permanent move because he was in our plans?

Which is why it's clear you've misconstrued his quotes.

He says they "put in a couple of very strong offers, ones we thought would be accepted, but Celtic said he wasn’t for sale." Which completely contradicts any assertion a fee had been agreed.

To me it appears the fee being agreed is in reference to Hayes ie. The £1.3mil we signed him for when Aberdeen made the counter-bid to include Christie as a makeweight.

Ryan Christie believes Aberdeen is the best place for his development as he enters a crucial stage of his career.

The 22-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at the Pittodrie club.

He has now returned for a second spell at the club and is keen to replicate the success of his first stint having joined on a season-long loan from Celtic.

"I just wanted to think about where my football was best," Christie said.

"The way things were for the last six months of last season, I definitely wanted to replicate that for a full season.

"The onus is on me to step up, to continue some good form. If I can keep my consistency up I will be in a better place come next season."

Would be shocked if he isn't nominated for young player of the year

Pace, vision, and an eye for goal. Said it before he went out on loan, if he can add a bit of weight and a bit of aggression to his game, he CAN make it at Celtic.

    Future replacement for Armstrong?

No reason why he can't kick on this season and become a contender for POTY this season at Aberdeen. Great platform for him as Hayes showed last season.

Someone mentioned Benyu in another thread but good to see we've got good young boy's who I think look more than capable of making it here..
