Dundee Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of attacker Michael Duffy on a season long loan from Celtic.

Michael spent last season on loan with Alloa in the Ladbrokes Championship and impressed throughout his spell. Featuring 38 times and scoring three goals, including a winner against Hibernian and the opener in a 1-1 draw at Ibrox against champions Rangers.

A Northern Ireland under 21 international, Michael joined Celtic from Derry City in 2015 after breaking into their first team at the age of 18. He scored 13 goals in just over 50 appearances in his time at his home town club, gaining experience of playing and scoring in the Europa League. His impressive form saw him earn a move to Celtic Park.

Michael joins the club on a season long loan from Premiership champions Celtic and will go straight into the squad for the pre-season friendly on Friday night away to Alloa.

Manager Paul Hartley told us, “We are delighted to add another attacking option. Michael impressed during his spell with Alloa and we look forward welcoming him into the squad.”

He's only got a year left on his contract which would have been this season. That's him off for good then, good luck to him and all the best but always suspected he wouldn't be good enough.

That is a much better move for him.

Should never have been loaned to * Alloa in the first place.

I was going to put in no offence there :smiley-laughing002:

You know what I mean though. For his development and for us to see what he was really like, he'd have been better off at a Hamilton or Partick Thistle. Surprised they wouldn't have taken him.

Got named to NI squad today

Michael O'Neill said he likes what he has seen from him at Dundee, so I would guess he is doing well.

MICHAEL DUFFY could be on his way out of Celtic without ever playing a competitive game for the first team.

League of Ireland champions Dundalk are interested in taking the Northern Irish winger to Oriel Park either on loan or on a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old was signed from Derry City by Ronny Deila in February 2015 after impressing on trial with the hoops but he never made the breakthrough to the top team.

He was farmed out on loan to Alloa for the whole of the 2015/16 season, scoring three goals.

One of those came against Rangers when he opened the scoring in a 1-1 draw at Ibrox.

That game will also be remembered for Duffy’s refusal to take part in a guard of honour for the recently crowned Championship winners.

He stood with his hands behind his back as the Rangers players walked past, later explaining that he was a Celtic player and didn’t think it was right to clap.

Duffy went back out on loan at the start of this season, spending six months at Dundee.

But he only scored one goal in 13 games, in a 7-0 League Cup win over Forfar.

Hoops chiefs are understood to be happy to let him join Dundalk on loan.

But they are prepared to make it a permanent deal if they can recoup the money they paid for him, believed to be around £100,000.

Wouldn't be against it, can't see him making it here but could make some noise with Dundalk.
