Aye the fact he's signed a 6yr deal gives them time and bit of bargaining power tho.

Hopefully he gets his move - not just for the £6m/£7m we will receive, honest.

I want to see the big man playing for a club that are going to be challenging for trophies and playing European fitbaw.

Not a chance Southampton will be able to keep him this window..

It's too messy, too public and the player is already out the door in heart and mentality as well. It makes no sense for them to keep him..

Liverpool have turned down a 115m bid from Barca for Coutinhio.

If Liverpool do indeed sell him (assuming Barca come back with a bigger bid) it must surely mean Liverpool will pay the 70m Southampton want for Van Dijk?

In which case we're looking at 7m (if the clause is 10%) or 10.5m if the clause is 15%.

I've heard we've actually got 20% on the profit of Van Dijk.

So if he does indeed go for £70m, and we sold him for £12m (?) we get 20% of the overall profit.

    Where are you hearing that?

Think the BBC mentioned 10 or 15% of the overall fee, though more likely to be 10% they said.

But if it's 20% of the profit, and let's say Southampton do get 70m for him then the profit would be 58m. And 20% of 58m would be 11.6m.

Guarantee we draw Liverpool or Chelsea and then he goes deadline day to one of them and we don't know what the * we want then.

I think he needs the move now in term of career. Ready for the next step.

To be honest, I have no idea why Southampton are spitting the dummy here. It happens to every club yet they seem intent on letting him rot by not playing him.

Sell him ffs. We understand that money talks yet they throw their toys out the pram when someone with more financial clout comes along. Grow the * up.

I agree with you, he'll be gone come September. I just want our * money!

I can understand it, even if they're cutting off their nose to spite their face. As fine a player as he was for us , he is a sulky, arrogant * in the Dutch tradition. He was the same towards the end with us. If Southampton can afford to keep him training with the reserves, good for them. Far too many dummy spitters in modern football.
It would obviously be better for us if he went, but that isn't Southampton's concern either.

This is a poor example as I really want him sold so we get whatever we're owed, but I'd love to see a club dig their heels in and let a player with his attitude rot in the reserves.

Why sign a contract extension if you're going to try and bully the club into selling you at the first opportunity?

Can see why you think that but they will get a larger transfer fee as a result of him signing the new contract.

Surely Southampton and their fans would rather he did that than leave for nothing or for a fraction of what he is actually worth.

It's like the Armstrong situation here. I am a lot happier now that he has extended his contract so if clubs are interested in him they will have to pay his true value rather than us having to sell at a knock down price because he only has a year left, or him potentially leaving for nothing next summer if he hadn't signed on.

    * leaving a guy being valued at £60m+ to rot in the reserves to prove a point. They should be slapping an even bigger value on him and seeing which club will offer closest to it.
