We'll get at least 5m anyway.

17m all in, not too shabby.

Should have gotten a bigger fee for him, hopefully he's the last player that we get underpaid for just because he plays in Scotland.

I hate Chelsea but it would be a far better career move than Liverpool.

Barcelona should be all over him.

CELTIC are poised for a huge £5.5million windfall with Chelsea set to win the race for Virgil van Dijk.

Treble-chasing Hoops inserted a sell-on clause when they flogged the Dutch defender to Southampton for £13m two years ago.

Antonio Conte’s Blues are now confident they have won the race to sign Van Dijk from under the noses of Arsenal in a deal which could rise to £55m.

The Hoops would net 10 per cent of that sum, adding to Brendan Rodgers’ summer spending power.

SunSport can reveal Saints have been tempted after Chelsea threw young Danish centre-half Andreas Christensen into the deal.

Christensen, who is rated at £15m, is in his second season on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach but returns to Chelsea this month.

Arsenal have lost out despite offering to make Van Dijk one of their highest-paid players on over £150,000 a week.

The defender, 26, is still recovering from an ankle injury sustained in January and is unlikely to play again this term but that hasn’t put off Arsenal or Blues boss Conte.

Christ, he's earning the big bucks now. In the space of 4 years he's gone from probably signing on at around £8k a week with us to at least £150k with Chelsea.

Mental. Hope Brendan gets all that dough and spunks it on one player. Essentially 'free money' because it won't take away from the CL pot earned this season or his original budget set out.

They really should be, given their defensive woes this season.

He'd walk into their team IMO.

Better player than Umtiti and streets ahead of that donkey Matthieu.

Not to mention the fact he is the epitome of a modern, Barca-like CB.

Nah wouldn't want us ruining his career when we get barca yet again in the champions league and put 5 past him... :fear:

This, plus the fact Barca seriously lack height and real strength in the side. He's a man mountain at the back, a leader and his distribution would be class to watch in amongst your Messi's as well..

Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern are all missing a trick if they let him slip away to another Epl side..

Nice wee lift for us though. That's 1 or possibly 2 signings alone..

I'd like us to * it all on a classy CM or CB. The full £6m.

Said above but it's essentially free money for Rodgers.

A £6m fee alone is never going to cost just that though. Signing a player for that amount, will likely cost the club at least £10m+ over the course of the player's stay here.

For that reason, I can't see us getting close to our transfer record any time soon.

Even at £10m over the course of their stay it would potentially be worth it.

Better quality players will in turn make CL qualification more of reality year on year, immediately paying back the fee.

I know where you are coming from, I'm usually pessimistic as well with us spending money, however I don't think Rodgers would have spoken about breaking the record in the past if he hadn't been told he could.

Big cunting * missed four months of the season and is still top of the list for most aerials won with 261.

Put that into perspective Kosicelny on 217.

Just had a quick skim over the article on sky sports suggesting that Big Van is the man arsenal need.

That much is obvious really anyway.

Every team down south should be fighting over each other to sign him. There's not many teams in the world where he wouldn't walk into their starting XI.

Maybe not Bayern actually but he would at Real. I think he would start with Ramos because Pepe isn't getting any younger and Varane is pish.
