    Hearing really good things about this lad, we could be onto a real player here. If what people are saying is true then Lenny and the scouting team look to have done if again. This will stand us in really good stead for Europe next season.

    Big Pierre and Frank De Boer have good things to say about Virgil.

    His imminent capture delighted compatriot and former Celtic idol Pierre van Hooijdonk.
    He tweeted last night: “Celtic does a great job signing Virgil van Dijk. Strong centre-half who is comfortable with ball at his feet. Worth a lot in couple of years.”
    And former Rangers stopper Frank de Boer has also tipped van Dijk as a future star.
    The Ajax boss said: “Virgil van Dijk has all the qualities needed to be a great central defender. He’s big, strong and has good footballing ability.
    “He’s a boy we have been keeping an eye out for a long time — he’s one for the future.
    “Virgil is someone we have followed for a long time. Of course, he is a great footballer.
    “We looked at him for Ajax, but we had to measure him against what we already have here.
    “We have Joel Veltman, who is a similar age and plays the same position.
    “This time, we will keep our money in our pockets.”

    Van Dijk passed his medical and FC Groningen confirmed the transfer on their website. I hope he'll do well at Celtic. Good luck to you guys and Van Dijk next year :)

    Looking forward to seeing this guy. I know it's only comments from ex-players and current managers, but it's encouraging hearing the praise he has received. It's also good that he come out and said he wanted to play for Celtic prior to the deal being finalised in my opinion. As did Balde.

    CELTIC are delighted to announce that defender Virgil van Dijk has joined the club from FC Groningen.

    The Dutch Under-21 internationalist has signed a four-year deal with the Scottish Champions, and he becomes the latest player to join Neil Lennon´s squad during the close season following the arrival of striker Amido Balde from Portuguese side, Vitoria Guimaraes.

    Virgil van Dijk will be officially unveiled at Celtic Park this afternoon at 2.45pm.
