    Now there's a team and a half.

Imagine a world where we'd kept the top players we've had in the last 5/6 years together.

    GK: Forster, Gordon

Defenders: Lustig, Denayer, Toure, Sviatchenko, Van Dijk, Tierney, Izaguirre

Midfielders: Brown, Wanyama, Ledley, Kayal, Ki, Forrest, Roberts, Sinclair, Samaras.

    Forwards: Hooper, Stokes, Griffiths, Dembele

And Southampton would be back in League 1.

There surely has to be an argument that giving players like that 25/30k a week and keeping them longer is more prudent than selling them on and replacing them with 3rd rate * for millions in transfer fees?

More stable playing squad, more likely to qualify for the CL and happy content supporters.

I'd imagine it's possible, but it's a fine balancing act.

Too many top young players like Van Dijk and Wanyama and it's a risky revolving door policy.

Too many older players like Sutton, Lennon, Thompson, Hartson etc and there's no money to be made back via transfers.

O'Neill 'almost' had a perfect balance.

If you think of the Seville team, we had young guys like Marshall, McManus, Kennedy, Wallace, Miller, Maloney and McGeady ready to make the breakthrough.

We just needed a few players to bridge the gap after Seville.

Aye, O'Neill just lacked another 2 of Petrovs type to carry on into the next generation. Agathe, McNamara, Mjallby, Varga, Valgaeren, Lennon, Lambert, Thompson, Sutton and Hartson were all done really between 2004-2006.

    Marshall
    McNamara Balde Kennedy Wallace
    Lennon
    Petrov Miller McGeady
    Maloney
    Hartson

Would have been a good team to start from in 2005, would only really have needed a left-back, centre-back, keeper and a striker. Bit unfortunate that Kennedy got injured and Miller left in 2004 then McNamara left in 2005.

Spurs fans were against him before he signed.

Now they realise what he brings to a team.

Wanyama is undoubtedly a very good player and he is really shining in the EPL like I thought he would.
Still, from what I can gather, Brendan dozen't normally have a Wanyama type destroyer in his team.
He operates in a different way and looks to go with a ball playing type of DM.

He's more suited to Spurs than Southampton too, playing the way he did today allowed to just sit at Southampton they let him roam a bit and when they had Schneiderlin he done the main sitting in the middle job. The way he was constantly on the move intercepting the space between the City player on the ball and Aguero and Silva was great to watch he constantly just moved into gaps so that they couldnt be fed the ball and he won a good few tackles as well and took the ball off people a few times and kicked off attacks himself. Great display.

Wanyama seems like one of the most laid back guys I've ever seen.

Love seeing the big man still talking about us even till this day, I've seen people say he's a mercenary but I genuinely believe he loved playing for this club it's just he knew he had to go down South to be taken more seriously and test himself against tougher opposition week in, week out. Plus I suppose the money is pretty decent too :84:.

Would love to see the big man return one day even for a testimonial match or something like Browns.
