Nice touch by Bayo :50: seems a good lad and not already thinking on his next move like many others have done.

Great gesture from the bhoy. Seems a very grounded lad, hopefully that maturity shows on the field.

Yes as we've seen from many foreigners their attitude is crucial as to whether they will be success or not. Too many foreigners with a lazy, cant be arsed attitude have come to our club in recent years for my liking.

Former Celtic legend Lubo Moravcik revealed he was consulted by Celtic's hierarchy and urged the Hoops to sign up Ivorian striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo.

The 22-year-old forward moved to Brendan Rodgers' side earlier this week on a four-year deal from Slovakian side Dunajska Streda.

The forward has scored 18 goals in 23 games this campaign, helping his team to reach second place in the Slovakian Super Liga.

Former Czechoslovakia midfielder Moravcik, who played for the Scottish Premiership side from 1998-2002, insisted he would be a great signing for Celtic, with a fee rumoured to be around the £2million mark and is subject to a work permit.

He said: "The Celtic leadership asked me about Bayo, and I told them to get him.

"Though I did not pay attention to just him, I know him from the Slovakian league. In the game against Nitra, who I work for, he played very well. He scored a goal and was dangerous all the time.

“The only question is, will you be able to get used to the new environment. I think yes and I fully believe this. When Celtic were looking for an attacker for two million, they couldn't wait to get a football star."

And Moravcik, who himself was a bargain buy back in 1998 when Celtic bought the midfielder for £200,000 from German club Duisburg, reckons Bayo has all the attributes to shine for the Scottish champions in the years to come.

He added: "They wanted a player who was not expensive but still had quality. Bayo is this player. Celtic is a great club for Bayo, and can serve as a springboard for even bigger clubs.

“African players come to Europe, shine themselves, move on to a better league, and then get even better. Bayo can follow this path. I wish him well."

Lubos comments were less than flattering tbh.

Nothing surprising in it but still...

The price should be a secondary concern though (within reason). Why start with an arbitrary maximum spending limit? We can presumably afford to spend more than £2m on a player if there are better options available to us.

It is such a backwards approach. I hope that there has been a communication error there.

    Dont think so.

Were well known NOT to negetiate our bids over our initial evaluation.

Realistically we could have lost out to parma for this kid over a few hundred grand, just like we lost mcginn.

Backwards doesnt even begin to describe it

Celtic new boy Vakoun Issouf Bayo has forked out a fine instead of accepting a two-game ban which could have ruled him out of his first games in Scotland.

The £2million striker has joined Celtic and could be in line for his bow this week in the Scottish Cupagainst Airdrie.

But the Ivory Coast international was sweating over a possible ban in Scottish football after what turned out to be his last match for Dunajska Streda when he was booked and scored in a 2-2 draw with Zilina.

He was later cited for a 'striking an opponent with excessive force in the head and neck.'

The Slovak Football Association handed him a three-game ban, which he'd already served one game and that would have been passed across to the SFA when he registered for Celtic.

However, Slovakian FA rules have permitted Bayo to pay a fine of £893 instead of the ban and he moves to Scotland with a clean slate.

They stated: "The Disciplinary Board of the Slovak Football Association took note of the request by Vakouna Issouf Bayo to amend the disciplinary sanction imposed in the previous December resolution.

Due to the transfer of this player abroad, it will change to a financial penalty of 1,000 Euros under Article 17/12 of the Disciplinary Code."

Bayo was previously sent off for his club in a game in September away to Slovan Bratislava.

"He is awaiting a work permit decision for his move to Glasgow.

Highlights of his goals on youtube would suggest he scores quite a lot of goals with his head - something we don't do enough of

*! Why mention a sending off from 4 months ago? Trying to cast him as a dirty player already, so the refs can target him?
