Couldn't find a thread or maybe it's been mentioned in another one. If so mods can close this.

Supposedly we and the other three clubs had a meeting with Uefa voicing our concerns about the Uefa CL monopoly by the big clubs in the near future.

Good we're doing this, but won't help a bit with them money grabbers.

The more clubs that get behind us the merrier. This UEFA strategy is completely strangling European competition for the big clubs in less attractive leagues. But the rich getting richer will only lead to an implosion on football in general. A more level playing field is obviously needed.

I can't see Uefa giving a * as long as millions and millions of people keep watching the CL and supporting the big money clubs.

    Good.

If more clubs take a stand something might happen. Get the likes of Benfica and Porto involved as well. Although their revenues are much larger than ours, they will be affected too.

Too right as well, the big leagues already have it easy enough with seedings and not having to qualify, it's called the Champions league yet champions of one country aren't guaranteed to qualify whilst 3rd in another are?

Catering to the big boys with all the MONEY which is what it comes down to yet again. Never mind the sporting reasons, or having a "competition for all". Just get the guys with the money in and * the rest.

Not just Porto and Benfica but teams from Austria, Switzerland, Scandinavia, Russia, Greece etc. All the countries outside of the big 5 need to get together and take on UEFA

Maybe that's wot they want to see happen , and a threat of going our own way makes it easier for them .

A competition involving the rest of Europe run in competition with the CL might seriously effect their viewing figures.

It's an absolute joke already giving the EPL 4 CL spots but now for Italy, Germany and Spain. That's not the Champions League that's the European elite league, * corrupt wanks.

would it help if fans got involved in some way?massive banners at games in protest?

just thinking making a bit of a noise, cause theres plenty of big clubs losing out.and its only going to get worse maybe as a collective unit we might have a chance.all the big clubs losing out and there fans bringing the situation to a head.

Well it would be good if more clubs from small countries would attend this meeting. The so called 'reform' of the UCL is for sure detrimental for clubs like Ajax, Celtic etc. But I don't see a plan b - not yet. This meeting could be the first step for a healthy alliance between those clubs.

Sky puts millions into the CL.
    BT do so to.
The only way anything will get done is threats to their cashcow by boycotting or cancelling their contract with those 2 orgainsations.
    EG.
3 million households have a Sky sport contract so pay £50 a month minimum.
Thats £1.8billion a year lost revenue for Sky.
Thats a significant amount in anybody's money.
Especially as i only counted Scotland

Uefa will want the biggest teams in it every year for the big cash from all their markets, Middle East/Central Asia/N.America etc. The dedicated football fans from Europe who support teams who aren't in it are losing interest and in some cases totally lost interest.

There was a substantial amount of people I spoke to today who forgot it was on last night which was interesting and hardly arsed that Barca got pumped including me. I assume the CL package after the group stages is highly sellable and marketable to places such as the U.S and China etc.

It feels almost certain that UEFA will make the champions league a closed shop. And I cannot see teams from smaller nations getting an invite. The only obstacle may be if enough teams want to push for a full blown European league - something the Spanish, German and French would likely support but the English wouldnt.

Given either of those outcomes, a secondary European league seems like the logical move for team like Celtic and Ajax. It may start out as the poorer, less viewed, league, but over time teams would grow and people may actually get bored watching the same teams won the big league every year.

Champions League is going towards invite only with MLS and Dubai clubs being invited instead of smaller European leagues.

I'd love the smaller nations (I say small, I include the likes of Holland and Portugal) to form a European league and just leave the elites to play each other all the time. See how quickly they become boring. I reckon such a league would attract (at worst) modest sponsorship revenue for sustainability

I'd love a breakaway tournament to be set up for the likes of clubs like ourselves, Ajax, Anderlecht, Porto etc. Let the so called "elite" have the Champions League as a closed tournament and see how long it lasts. I know what i'd find more exciting and entertaining to be a part of that's for sure.
