Sadly very true. It is one thing to not be good enough to really have a go at top sides like say Spain or Portugal but we make no attempt to even play against mediocre and weak teams although I guess we are now in those categories ourselves now. I refer again to my earlier approach we need a root and branch change to how the top players in the country are nurtured and the opening of a full time professional residential academy for our top young talent.

So Scotland go into a play-off to get into the euro 2020 competition if we beat Israel? So we are 2 wins away from the euros or am I missing something? If this is true I can't believe there is very little hype towards this competition for us, 1996 was the last time we qualified for the euros.

Who will be in the play-offs?
    • Four play-off slots are allocated to each league from UEFA Nations League D to UEFA Nations League A, i.e. in reverse alphabetical order.
    • The UEFA Nations League group winners enter the play-offs unless they have qualified for the final tournament directly from their European Qualifiers group.
    • If a UEFA Nations League group winner has qualified directly for the final tournament, the next best-ranked team in the relevant league ranking (see Regulations of the UEFA Nations League) that has not qualified directly will enter the play-offs.
    • If fewer than four teams from one league enter the play-offs, the remaining slots are allocated on the basis of the overall UEFA Nations League rankings (see Regulations of the UEFA Nations League) to the best-ranked of the teams that have not already qualified, subject to the restriction that group winners cannot be in a play-off path with higher-ranked teams.

    Aye mate.

Gives us a backup plan for when we inevitably lose out in the groups.

No. You go into a 2 legged semi final then another game. So before last nights game you were 4 games off and you are now 3.

Both the semi and the finals are one off game I’m sure?

    Correct
Semi final is between 26th and 28th March 2020 and final is between 29th March and 31st March 2020.
The draw for the Semi finals and final will be 22nd November 2019. This is for each Path.
The draw for the final will also be made to see hosts.

Sorry if it's been mentioned but if they're single leg semis and finals, how do they choose the venue?

Each play-off path will feature two single-leg semi-finals, and one single-leg final, taking place in March 2020. The best-ranked team will host the fourth-ranked team, and the second-ranked team will host the third-ranked team. The host of the final will be decided by a draw in November 2019 between the two semi-final pairings.

The play-offs are played in single-leg knockout matches. If scores are level at the end of normal time, 30 minutes of extra time is played, where each team is allowed to make a fourth substitution.[7] If the scores remain tied, a penalty shoot-out is used to determine the winner.

The draw for this wont take place until November 22nd next year

It's perceived almost as a friendly I guess. UEFA had to reduce the tickets' price to fill the stadiums.

I'm watching the game because the front 4 (Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, João Félix and Ronaldo) is fantastic.

Aye. I pretty much just view them as friendlies. Will be watching both of Ireland's qualifiers this weekend though.

Yeah. Early Switzerland goal would be interesting to see how they cope with that attack coming at them for the rest of the game.

Also if Liechensteiner is playing that probably makes the two players I have detested most ever playing on the same pitch. (Pepe is the other).

Was tempted to put a wager on Pepe and Xhaka getting carded, 2 absolute fannies.
