same every year sadly. If we cant win these games we shouldn't be in the competition.

I know some leagues start earlier but with the WC no excuses as a lot of those teams will be ripped apart with no pre season. i have full faith we will once again qualify.

I kind of agree with giving the the top 6/8 league champions, champions league and europa league winners top seedings, one of the few positive changes that have been in recent years though not really from our point of view.

Wouldn't even call the first round * easy to be honest. Depends on the draw. There are straightforward ties with a couple of potential banana skins. Ljubljana beat Maribor to the Slovenian title and we've struggled with the likes of them in the past, albeit with a far worse Celtic team. Trnava wouldn't be a walk in the park either.

Feels like we've become competitive in the qualifiers and going into the groups to make up numbers, when it used to be competitive in the groups and going into the knock out round to make up numbers

Sadly that’s the way the Champions League is going, it has just become the tournament of the big 5 leagues in Europe. Even the Portuguese and Dutch are getting squeezed out and they have punched above their weight in the past.

Exactly. The second tier to mid level countries, who historically have had teams lift Euro trophies and reach finals (Scotland Holland Romania Sweden Belgium Balkans and so on) now have no hope of winning for the foreseeable future.

32 team group stage where 16 places go to top 4 teams in top four countries is a * shocking decision.

20 places for top 20 ranked countries champions. 8 qualifying spots for champions and 4 for the non champions. Never happen of course, the masses have been brainwashed that the tournament is devalued if the usual superclubs don't qualify.

AC Milan recently proposed a motion that club's in so called major leagues who finish outside the champions league qualifying positions should get a place based on their historical participation. Wouldn't surprise me if this happens in the future. Man U get relegated but placed in champions league because of their 'historical participation'.

Do you think 'historical participation' would include us or say, Nottingham Forrest? Some how I doubt it.

Just code words for very rich teams.

tbf Celtic have benefitted from UEFA changes as i'm sure they now include past European Cup wins into the club coefficient and have got rid or are getting rid of nation coefficient?

Still, 8 games just to make the groups is ridiculous.

Would like to draw Legia and get a bit of revenge for our 3-0 wins before :67:

The national co-efficient is not being removed as far as I am aware. They have to use some guide to put teams in certain round or have to have a reason to whether valid. Just our seeding is not based on the rest of the country.

With regards to AC Milan, this is them throwing a paddy about doing badly in Europe or rarely qualifying over the past 5 years. Yeah it wouldn't shock me so that they could hand clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool, Milan, and others places despite failure in their leagues.

Seeing posts that the prize money has went up by a good chunk crucial that we qualify and in the long run get a better domestic tv deal to at least double the prize money for the league it won't solve problems but a positive step forward

Qualification for the group stage will now be worth a staggering £40,000,000 to Celtic FC. The route there is now harder than ever before, the prize now bigger than ever before. Link here.

If we continue to qualify for the CL in the next couple of seasons, and have one or two big money player sales, then Celtic FC will have the financial footing to really push on to the next level.

Hard to work out the new system.

    Seems

€280k if you are knocked out in Round 1
€380k if you are knocked out in Round 2
€480k if you are knocked out in Round 3
€5m if you are knocked out in the Play-Off
+ €260k if you fail to make the Group Stage of either competition
If you qualify for the CL you get none of that money.

€15.25m if you get into the Groups
    + *€19.43m Market Pool
+ €7.756m Coefficient Ranking (at least)
    + €2.7m per win
    + €900k per draw

Coefficient ranking is €1.108m per ranking place of the 32 teams in it, based on your clubs position on the 10 year rankings list. Celtic are above Monaco, Lokomotiv Moscow, Viktoria Plzen, Club Brugge and Hoffenheim who have already qualified + we are ranked above one other team who will come through the qualifiers Ludogorets for example. So we are for sure ranked above at least 6 teams giving us 7 shares - worth €7.76m. (If that it correct they don't explain it well)

*Not sure of the Market Pool but it was €15.54m before and BT Paid £300million more than they did the last time for the rights which was about 25% more, if it's went up 25% then we are due around that.

So if we get into the Group Stage we are guarenteed about €42.45million(£37.1million) before selling a ticket or any sponsorship or advertising bonuses. If you add in tickets(even excluding the first round, we're probably still going to bring in about £10million from the other 3 Qualifying rounds and 3 Group Stage games), Say the bonuses of New Balance and Dafabet are even only £1million, that takes us upto £48million then whatever the additional food/drink/merchandise/programme etc income is from those 6 extra games. Talking £50million easy the difference between reaching the Group and being knocked out in the first Qualifier.

Getting to the CL Play-Off round is a must as that still guarentees us excellent money if we are knocked out we'd get €5million for getting to there then €2.9m for getting into the EL Groups, our market pool might be about €2m + about €2.5million for out Coefficient Ranking - so even losing in the Play-off round would see us getting about €12.5million which is about what you got for getting into the CL back in the days of Strachan and O'Neill.

How is the Champions League fund allocated?
A total of £1.71bn will be divided into four categories:

Starting fee: Each of the 32 clubs that qualify for the group stage can expect to receive an allocation of £13.34m each.
Fixed amounts: Group stage performance bonuses will be paid for each match - £2.36m for a win, £787,000 for draw.
Clubs will also receive £8.31m for reaching the round of 16, £9.19m for the quarter-finals, £10.5m for the semi-finals and £13.12m for reaching the final. The winner will receive an additional £3.5m

We will break our record of income coming in from the champions league if we get there and get a decent draw and a few wins ..then getting out the groups even more money.
