Chill man! It isn't WW3 yet! Angus was all over this thread like a rash, so i just had a wee joke!

Erdoghan was in the process of switching to the Russia/Syria side, and then theres a sudden coup.

By who though, Pro NATO, pro Islamist ????

Was that a guess, insider knowledge, or fact?

Very concerned by events unfolding in #Turkey. Our Embassy is monitoring the situation closely. Brits should follow FCO website for advice

Hopefully Thomas who may or may not be from Marmaris and may or may not be married, is ok.

It would be nice to know his flat in Springburn has survived the coup. :smiley-laughing002:

Live coverage on BBC News showing a large crowd, sounds of gunfire, and people being carried away.

Just saw a clip of people blocking a tank too, some of them were even jumping on top of it.

Firmly on their fence, as is Lavrov. This is an internal struggle, and the large powers don't want to isolate whichever side ends up winning.

    *......!:bbpd:

Yes, he may well be, but until i know more, its hard to say much. Im not disappointed if im honest. (unless there are real casualties)

Like everyone else, i am well aware of his leanings away from a secular society to one more sympathetic to Islam, so there is no chance i would ever support him.

Somebody must be bankrolling the coup though. Probably the Russians.

They weren't going to let that downed fighter go quietly.

Turkey being a more Western Liberal country sounds good on paper. But what will the local population do with this new found freedom and liberty? They will listen to Justin Biebar and post selfies on Facebook, bad days democracy is a sham.:31:

As much as I hate all that nonsense I'd rather that than it going down the deeply conservative Islamic route and causing a great cultural divide between Turkey and its European neighbours.
