the big teams in europe with money might end up getting a taste of there own medicine if this keeps up.* the chinese would probably be able to fill 200,000 seater stadiums in the not too distant future at this rate.

They arent really signing anyone that good though. If they start signing guys like Van Dijk, Hazard, Aguero then you'd be thinking that things are taking a turn but Ramires, Oscar, Demba Ba then they were never really good enough for top teams anyway.

They only get Championship level attendances, half of the league doesn't break the 20k average mark. Shandong get 18k in a 56k stadium, Liaoning get 22k in a 60k ground. They're about 4 million short on the Championship, albeit with 8 less teams, but even if you take the bottom 8 out of the Championship they're trailing by a couple of million or so. MLS even beats the CSL attendances by a large margin.

Quite silly that their top league only has 16 teams considering the size of the country. If you lived outside of the major centres your closest 'local' team could be days away.

They'll probably need a couple of decades before they build the football culture to the point where they're getting numbers on par with something like La Liga.

The deal is meant to be way more than that, one of the top transfers in the world, so not sure where £14m comes from.

I seen that on SSN earlier, bizarre stuff. He said Portugal winning the Euros was like Genoa winning Seria A(weird one to pluck out) and that they only won it as Ronaldo "was incredible". Seemed to squeeze that in out of nowhere when nobody even mentioned Portugal or the Euros or nothing lol

Was like he just wanted to be seen praising Ronaldo on camera for some reason.

Boca Juniors only got £14 million for Tevez. Other third parties will get their share of the transfer fee I suspect. He'll be paid more than that in a year, that is where the scale of the deal becomes massive.

Does anyone think it'll be actually true what they are saying Chinese teams are paying?

Like why would they pay that much for Tevez who is about 33 when they'd be sold him for half that much, also why pay him £600k a week when he'd have gone there easy for £200k.

Reminds me of when Beckham signed for LA Galaxy and they were all saying he will be earning £200k a week, £20k per day £30 per minute and all that then you see the MLS dont pay people anywhere near that.

Tevez wouldn't have anywhere near China for 200 grand a week.

Fairly sure it will be accurate, there's a reason the league will be wanting the figures publicised as much as possible as well. When you think about the tax system over there and the fact that the teams are limited to a few foreigners each it won't be hard to pay them above the odds. The bulk of the Chinese players probably make League 1 sort of money.

    https://www.statista.com/statistics/256331/average-player-earnings-chinese-super-league-soccer/

If those 2012 figures are accurate the average Chinese international makes a couple of hundred thousand a year compared to the million plus for the foreigners.

With Beckham did they not make a special category for marquee players that made them exempt from the salary cap, allowing them to pay him what they liked to? Most of his earnings come from endorsements anyway, recall him giving his wages at PSG away to charity.

Seems he's not anyway, was misreported that Tevez would be earning $40million per year when the Chinese were reporting the whole deal for 2 years is $40milion, $11million of that is the transfer fee and rest 2 years worth of wages.

    http://www.espnfc.com/story/3027973/carlos-tevez-joins-shanghai-shenhua-in-chinese-super-league

Shanghai Shenhua paid a £9 million ($11m) transfer fee to get the striker, and while it was initially said he would be paid a world-high of £615,000 ($760,632) a week to make the move, reports in China say it will be significantly less.

The total deal over two years is reported to be £32.5m ($40m) including the transfer fee, which works out at £226,000 per week and that would place Tevez significantly behind the reported salaries for Cristiano Ronaldo (£288,000 after tax) and Lionel Messi (£256,000 after tax).

Makes more sense, as I said why would you offer a guy that much when he would walk over broken glass for half that, doesnt really make sense.

Aye but it's still not that much, Beckham was paid about £75k a week at LA Galaxy. The way it was announced at the time though was like it would be the biggest deal in history and they were going on about how much he'd earn per second and all that.

Players in the MLS dont actually get paid that much, they announce what they pay everyone.

The current top earner is Kaka who earns about £80k per week which is good for an old over the hill player incapable of playing for European teams who could afford that but nothing that great.

That's only the official wages, though, the endorsements he got via the Galaxy amounted to the vast majority of his income.
