    Down v Armagh.

That's probably the best draw for both teams.

Nice open draw for Ulster. Hard to chose either finalist for a change.

The most likely outcome but both will have a fight to get there. I think Tyrone will win it if they get over Donegal. If Donegal beat Tyrone I would have less confidence in them getting over Monaghan.

My local club (Castleknock) into the Dublin Senior football championship final after beating Jude's last night. Some achievement for a club only founded in 1998.

You'll be playing my local team in the final... I was at the semi the night before, pretty poor game, Dermo was stand out and why the Ballymun players tried to decapitate him a few times... Keep Dermo quiet without getting players sent off and youl be in with a big chance.. Some story if Knock win it...

The GAA may look at limiting the use of Amhrán na bhFiann and the Irish flag in anticipation of potential new post-Brexit agreements in Ireland.

GAA president Aogán Ó Fearghail believes that the association will adapt as necessary to any future agreements on the island of Ireland, predicting that Brexit will inevitably affect the GAA.

Speaking in Dubai on the GAA/GPA Football All Stars tour, Ó Fearghail said: “It’d be time to look at it in our own island too in terms of an agreed Ireland, which everybody in Ireland and everybody in the GAA looks at.

"There might well be political re-alignments on the island of Ireland and if there are then, the GAA, just as it did when Nickey Brennan was president at the time and before him Sean McCague, they welcomed the Anglo-Irish agreement. Every successive president has done that. I've done that.

“You certainly cannot look at these issues in advance of an agreement, that’s for sure.

“The flag and the anthem means a lot to the GAA and will continue to do so, but who knows in the future? In the future, if there are different agreements in place for the whole of Ireland, of course the GAA would be inclusive in that.”

“Brexit is going to affect the GAA the same as it’s going to affect everyone else and it does cause concerns. In the future if there are new agreements and new arrangements we’d be open-minded about things like flags and anthems but not in advance of agreements.”

I'd like to know what they think they will gain from this.

Jarlath Burns also came out with this nonsense not soo long ago.

Joe Brolly in the Irish Independent today

Just over 20 years ago, the people of Slaughtneil decided to create a community strategy covering all aspects of life. Social cohesion and Irish identity were the foundation stones.

    • So they quickly established the first rural Bunscoil outside the Gaeltacht areas. They now have a flourishing Bunscoil and Gaelscoil. Everyone under 21 is fluent and an increasing number of the older ones use their native tongue.

To spearhead the community's move towards self-sufficiency, they founded the Carntogher Community Association, the twin brother of the GAA club. They have their own purpose-built theatre. They run their own community post office. They are about to receive planning permission for a wind farm which will provide all the energy needs of the parish. They have purchased the ancient Carn woodland and a sprawling farm.

The Carn is now used by them as an amenity, with its beautiful woodland trails. An English family with Slaughtneil roots has been brought in to manage the farm for the benefit of the locals.

Every night there are classes in Irish, computer studies, French, Spanish - the works. Go down there at any time and you will see the children wandering about with hurls in their hands, chatting in Irish, playing music or dancing. Moves are afoot to classify Slaughtneil as an official Gaeltacht area. Their chairman, Seán McGuigan, who is prone to shedding a tear when Slaughtneil win big matches (he has taken to buying Kleenex in bulk), will tell you that their success on the field is merely a by-product of community cohesion off it.

They are loyal, generous people, with a peerless sense of place and identity. During the hunger strikes of 1981, they famously withdrew from all club competitions as a mark of solidarity. How could they play our games while their neighbours were suffering so badly?

The whole point of their community strategy is to create a bulwark against the bland, consumer world most people live in. A world where our identity is created by advertisers and products. The rest of the planet supports multi-national corporations like Manchester United or Chelsea or Real Madrid, where support is a one-way street and being a supporter means nothing more than being a consumer of the brand.

Culture is what comes through the iPhone. Leisure is mostly shopping or Weight Watchers or spin class. And if a neighbour is suffering, or has fallen on hard times, * him. He's just another stranger.
