I really, really, really hope this thing never actually happens. It's such a shameless cash grab by both men. If Mayweather is determined to return to the ring it shouldn't be against someone with so little boxing experience at any level.

Still hoping it's a load of *, or that Dana White saves the day somehow paving the way for McGregor to fight Khabib, or anyone else on the UFC roster, and Mayweather to just * off.

It's looking close mate just seen this on boxingscene .
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith that a much-discussed fight against Conor McGregor is "very, very close" to being finalized, according to an ESPN.com report Tuesday. Mayweather was with Smith on Saturday at the Warriors-Thunder NBA game in Oklahoma City, where Mayweather passed along that information. Smith also said that Mayweather reminded him that nothing is official until contracts are signed

I have a feeling it will happen unfortunately. Both men make a fortune and McGregor saves face due to the fact he's not even competing in his sport. Mayweather makes the most with the least risk which is all he's really been about for years anyway. The fans get fleeced as they pay top dollar for a complete mismatch.

Who really cares how much they make? They're both extremely wealthy men that would make the 100 million over several fights anyway rather than the 1 giant fight.

I want it to happen purely for the run up, what a spectacle regardless of the fact everyone knows what the outcome is going to be.

It's less about the money and more about them trying to turn both sports into circus events.

Mayweather vs a combination of Cristiano Ronaldo, Donald Trump and the Dalai Lama would generate a * load at the box office but would be equally as pointless. An extreme example but Mayweather McGregor is about as pointless as Mayweather fighting an A-list Holllywood celeb or the like - it will generate cash for all involved but it is useless in a sporting context and ultimately just serves to cheapen combat sports. Same applies to folk competing against McGregor in an mma context from outwith the world of mma.

The proper comparison would be something like a pool player against Ronnie O'Sullivan st snooker or Usain Bolt against David Rudisha at 800m. Guys with transferable skill sets.

Conor McGregor can box and has a unique talent at one particular facet of boxing. He just doesn't have the experience, ring craft, overall technique or skill set to trouble Mayweather over several rounds in a boxing ring.

He does have youth, a granite chin and a stick of dynamite in his left hand though which is just enough to spike the interest required.

That's the thing though, he can't box, at least not in comparison to Floyd Mayweather. I mean literally everything he's able to do in the ring, Mayweather is able to do infinetly better. He's been fighting better outright boxers than McGregor for the best part of 20 years. His pure boxing is very, very good by today's mma standard but compared to guys with decades of experience in the amateurs and pro ranks, thousands of rounds of sparring and coming from an extremely deep talent pool, he is nowehere close. That isn't a mark against him, it's just the reality of top level sport.

To put the gap into context, take a look at the 100th ranked welterweight according to boxrex - Juan Heraldez. 11 pro fights with 9 KO's, almost 100 * fights to his names as well as Golden Gloves title. A guy of that ability and experience is still levels above McGregor in the ring, but nowhere near Mayweather.

Mayweather cannot throw a left hand infinitely better than McGregor can.

He may be able to dodge it but he certainly doesn't have the KO power in his left, particularly given the huge age gap.

Mayweather lastest twitter update f--k knows think what he could be getting at he'll be first to announce it .Remember a story about Ricky Hatton the 2 of them were flying into NY Mayweather made his pilot takeover Hatton to be first to land .Think he's meaning if it's happening he'll be first to tell the world before McGregor .I was thinking cinco de mayo maybe same week as Canelo Chavez Jr only Mayweather McGregor MGM or couple of weeks there about ( for ppv numbers ) that's the big Mexican weekend when Floyd always boxed .

Floyd/Connor not going to happen anytime soon, they both keep story going as it's great media coverage for both of them. It's all so boring as well.

Kell Brook vs Spence Jr that has to be one of the fights of the year. I'm leaning towards Spence Jr to win as Brook has that nasty weight cut and Spence Jr will probably target that eye that GGG smashed. Spence Jr is the real deal so talented.

    Bet ye it does.

The only hurdle to a McGregor/Mayweather fight is the UFC. Neither fighter will put any barrier in the road as long as the money is guaranteed, which it will be.

I hope this is correct and had a feeling that was the case. Not so sure now after the last day or two.
