Ive been trying but its hard to find the time/patience.

Was visiting my family the last few days, and my 17 year old brother is *-hot on the guitar, he only started a few months ago but think hes putting in the hours, and it shows.

You are best going with acoustic first and then transferring to electric.
It can be very frustrating and I could never quite get the gist of it .Repetition and Patience galore is required, as well as a quiet place to practice where you won't get hounded or criticised.Another question is plectrum or fingers ?

Why the * would you have 6 grand worth of guitars when you can't even play the cunting things?
Like owning a Porsche when you are 12.

Don't know why he has so many.
I know one was a gift from his parents when he was younger and the other 3 he bought himself.

    His favourite artist is Santana.

My best advice would be to put the guitar down when you feel yourself getting frustrated. When your fingers begin to hurt, then take a break, don't push yourself. Set time for learning, then time for jamming. Learn a few song's with new chord's you have learned. Strumming technique is something that will evolve the more you play.

Most important, buy poster of guitar idol, and admire every day.

once I get my degree I'll reward myself with a guitar. have some mates who play in bands and they'd love to show me how to start playing guitar. in addition to that rocksmith looks like a good way to learn the basics as well.
