So I'm going to try and teach myself acoustic guitar.

Does anyone have any good videos, blogs, websites for absolute beginners like me?

    Thanks in advance.

Im self taught but learned pre internet. Nowadays there is so much available. Id start with what kind of music you like and you tube lessons on how to play a particular song.

If you are into indie (from memory I think you are?) learning the basic open chords will open up plenty of Oasis -type songs. I was into punk rock so learning a barre chord (a single shape you move up and down the fretboard) opened up hundreds of songs. To think that all you need to learn is one chord shape to be able to play most songs by the bands I was into at the time - Nirvana, Pistols, Ramones, etc- was a big incentive for me.

Im sure youtube will have lots of lesson videos but you cant go wrong by printing off a chord chart, learn A through G and how to change easily, and go from there.

Literally hundreds of tutorials on Youtube, @Sean Daleer. Have a look and see which ones you like.

Main thing, the more you practice, the quicker you'll pick it up.

If you play the Am, C, F and G chords, you already have the sequence to most pop songs ever written.

Focus on getting your basic chords played right then work in the strumming patterns. Took me ages to be able to play and sing but once I got one song done the rest were easier. If you're totally new get yourself ready for sore fingers and a lot of anger at playing the f chord

Just find the chords for a few songs you like and a chord chart. Don't get bogged down in theory.

So I've been using @TimFloyd 's suggestion of Justinguitar on yt. I've learned D and A and then I stopped his lesson and tried putting them together.

I done not too bad I thought. After 20 minutes of strumming them though my fingers feel like they are going to catch fire. :giggle1:

I don't want to stop but I think I will take Justin's advice and leave it until tomorrow now.

Highly addictive though learning two chords, putting them together and realising they sound like 100 songs you've heard before.

It's just the strumming I can never get going and leaves me frustrated.

But aye it's highly addictive when you start to get something that half resembles a wee tune.

Take your time and just keep at it, don't expect to be good straight away. I found it all seems to come together after a while of practicing. If you like nirvana and want an easy song to learn, try something in the way, it's just em and c on acoustic, basic strumming, one of my go to songs when I'm too pished to play lol

I got on with it again after my fingers settled down.

Justin has a great tip for moving between A,D and E using the Anchor Finger. Your first finger stays on the 3rd string throughout the chord changes, giving you a great base for knowing where your other fingers should be. It really helps.

My fingers are killing me again though. :giggle1:
