Peculiar this one, to say the least.

He specifically said that we wanted him last year but he had to stay in London at that point because of his son.

It was around the time he had just finished counselling for addiction.

Anyway Rodgers’ exact words were he is potentially a brilliant talent and if he was going into war, Steven Caulker is someone he’d want beside him.

I tell you what - I wouldn’t fancy going into war with Lustig or any of our current centre halves beside me!

I’ve not seen much of Caulker recently, but I did like him previously.

He’s looked a bit erratic on the 5 minutes you get on Sportscene, but the Dundee team is rotten.

I one game I did see live - the game at Celtic Park about 6 months ago, I’m sure it ended 0-0, he was the best player on the pitch, closely followed by the lad that plays in midfield for them, I forget his name, he’s ex Arsenal youth.

    So I’m open about this.

What we do need is Boyata to *, and 2 centre halves(one left sided) in.

Aggressive, leader types, that actually speak/shout.

Also a right back, and defensive midfielder.

One of those players that I would be quite happy bringing in, but makes me doubt considering he plays for Dundee.

Strange as he has played for some good clubs and quite regularly and then end up at Dundee.

Because he’s *? I actually never seen the guy play I believe.

What relevance does our CL situation have to it? He’s not going to be signed for the game tomorrow.

Don’t get me wrong, I can’t remember the last time I watched him play, so don’t really have an opinion on him signing or not. Just thought it was interesting the difference in opinion on him signing from Dundee as opposed to when he was a free agent a few months ago. Has he not been any use for them? Or are people just looking down their noses at another SPFL defender because Hendry hasn’t turned out to be a good signing so far?

The relevance is that it's not outwith the realms of possibility that we could go through tomorrow night and therefore any CB signing should be able to go immediately into the team for both the play-off round and the group stages if we're lucky to make it.

I've not seen much of Caulker since he moved there in January but what I have seen hasn't blown me away enough to part with anything upto £1.5 million.

To put it in context we could've got him for nothing in January and he'll be on no more than £3k a week at Dundee. For a 6 month deal with an option of 12 month extension that would be a total outlay of £234,000.

Even at the lower estimate we'd be paying £1 million as a fee and probably £10k per week on a 3 year deal, making the total outlay of £3 million.

Re turning our noses up at SPFL signings, we've not exactly had ground-breaking success with signings from Scotland. McGinn was probably the only player in the league I would've taken. Hayes was the best player outwith ourselves in 2016/17 and hasn't done anything for us, albeit he was injured for a period.

He’s been absolutely horrific for Dundee.

The guys utter *, dont know how anyone whos ever watched him has rated him. He's one of the slowest players about, hes pish on the ball and can barely jump.

For some reason Spurs managed to hype him up and punt him for like £10million but for me he's always been brutal.

My personal opinion is that we need at least 2 defenders, preferably 3 (2x CBs and 1x RB). If we were to get a quality CB and RB and add Caulker for cover, I would be more than happy with that.

Caulker was once a quality defender and I think we could bring the best out of him to be honest.

There must be some decent CB available without resorting to buying Caulker.

not a player we should bring to the club . A few "incidents" in Dundee that for some reason have been hushed. Common knowledge though in the town. Not over his problems

    Was the same down here..

Was always out by all account's, turning up to Qpr training half cut and still rattling off the other..

All rumours after he'd 'sorted his self out' but I know what I'd believe and why he's in Dundee in the first place..

Mate,he has been pish for Dundee. If he can't even look good in that team, there is no reason we should sign him.
