I really don't know what to make of this film. I most definitely did not have an instant affinity for it, that is for sure. And while as a film itself, if it was a stand alone effort it would be pretty entertaining if noone had ever seen or heard of Star Wars before, when it is part of a well known universe, then it leaves much to be desired.

My first instinct when Phantom Menace was first released was that, it needed to be rewatched. Not because of any particular sense of loyalty to Star Wars, but more to really affirm in my own mind that Lucas had so completely screwed up what should have been a pretty easy story to tell, and on top of which made it so completely terrible at the same time.

My reaction to this film is that it requires sitting through again, but thankfully not for the same reasons as I had to do back in 1999. There were large chunks of it that came across as non-sensical, complete with illogical jumps in concept and canon. Jumps not just from established SW lore from the original or even the terrible prequel trilogy, but even with it's very own predecessor, TFA. Were they trying to make a new Star Wars film, or re-invent the Matrix?

Was the first impression just a misguided judgement or if it really did jump the shark, so to speak. :43:

Mental that folk are complaining about plot holes in a film about magical space ninjas.

This is exactly how I view them too. I even like the prequels.

I'm a bit of a casual Star Wars fan, only watched them a couple years back when The Force Awakens was coming out at the cinema and I thought it looked good - so I decided to binge them all before going to see that.

I know a few people who had seen this one and said that it wasn't great but I took it with a pinch of salt as always. I like to judge for myself.

Anyway, I went to see this one last night and enjoyed it greatly.

Kylo Ren is growing on me - wasn't sure the guy suited the role in the first movie but he definitely seemed a bit more villainous and unpredictable in this one.

PS: Rae wid get my lightsaber..

Much better than the force awakens and almost on a par with rogue one. Enjoyed the movie personally.

I thought it was really awful. The answers to the questions set up in the first film were really poor and a bit of a ‘* you’ to anyone trying to guess over the last 2 years.

I don’t know if it’s because they decided to use different directors with different opinions of how things would go. I remember hearing the had written totally different sequels depending on how well Boyega and Ridley were received. I think that’s probably true because everyone’s role in this film was all over the place.

JJ Abrams is coming back for the 3rd film so with this one being such a disaster there’s a suggestion he might now retcon some of the decisions made. Snoke will probably be brought back using space magic because they don’t have a proper villain anymore.

Apart from the decisions and things the movie generally had really poor pacing and it didn’t use its best actors. The casino scene is embarrassingly bad for such a high budget film and having Poe run around hysterically over a misunderstanding with the purple haired lady is beyond ridiculous.

Why not send Poe and Finn on a rescue mission together seeing as they work so well together? And if you’re going to light-speed kamikaze a hero to save everyone, why not make it Admiral Akbar instead of a random new character no ones cares about?

    Just a * film.

Not as good as the originals but I don’t think they could make one as good or better.

Massive let down for me tbh, what they done with snoke and Luke’s characters was hugely disappointing. Movie was riddled with plot holes too.

I'd rank the 3 that have come out in the last 3 years as

    Rogue One
    Force Awakens
    Last Jedi

I like it ok but its really underwhelming, not even one hint on who Snoke is and do not believe the story about Rey's parents for a second, you could argue Anakin also came from nothing but he was created by the force, I dont think theres any way that Rey would of had such a huge reaction to holding the lightsaber the first time and beating Ren in the first one if she didnt have strong jedi background.

Is the next one going to be set 10 years later or something seeing as they have zero forces left to fight the first order?

    Stupid prank call
    Milking
The first order stopping an attack on the rebels cause they are slightly out of range after chasing them through hyperspace
    Weird animal rights messages
Rey getting hot and bothered after seeing a shirtless kylo ren ,weird
Ridiculous clicking fingers scene in fact everything to do with the hole under the island was just plain retarded
That stupid character with purple hair they stole off the hunger games set
Finn and rose entire story was stupid ,only one person in the galaxy can get you onboard but turns out any * can as long as hes got a deep message about the same people arming both the first order and the rebels
Superman Leia after her ship being blown up ,bonkers
Poe saying HEY BUDDY !!! Finn shouting WooOooo is simply irritating
Exact same torturing of rey in throne room as in T.F.A.
Supreme leader snoke oblivious to the fact a lightsaber was pointed at him,Then when all his guards are killed kylo ren doesn't go with the rebels????
But above all that pish is the complete character assassination of Luke skywalker.going to murder a child in his sleep because he got a little jittery about sensing darkness in him the same guy who wouldn't wack Vader as he had some good in him.
Some have said that the last Jedi ruins stuff set up in the force awakens what the * does Luke Skywalker saying the Jedi being a load of balls do for every starwars movie ?? Then when Luke goes to set fire to the Jedi texts we find out he didn't bother his * reading them
I'm sure there is more ridiculous and annoying things that's all I can think of off the top of my head having see it just once

    * I hated this movie ,what makes it even worse they resurrected one of the best characters in movie history and made a complete * of it I would happily see this load of crap go the same way as the holiday specials

The stats comparing TFA v TLJ really tells a tale about how poorly the new film has been recieved by audiences, just looking at the US domestic figures:

    After 1 week:

    TFA: $391m
    TLJ: $297m

    After 2 weeks

    TFA: $652m
    TLJ: $464m

So after 2 weeks, it has taken almost $200m less in the US market than it's predecessor. Obviously, it's still going to make a massive amount of cash and undoubtedly be still one of the highest grossing films of the year, but surely this has to be significantly concerning that it is performing so far below expectations.
