    Report from the Daily record:

Meanwhile, Celtic's Europa League clash with FC Sion could be rendered meaningless as the Swiss side face being booted out of their domestic league.
Reports in Switzerland yesterday suggested Sion were facing the axe after league chief Thomas Grimm received death threats in a bitter row over the club's transfer embargo.
Sion owner Christian Constantin has launched a £17m compensation claim after Swiss league bosses refused to let him field six summer signings, including former Hearts stopper Jose Goncalves. And furious blazers are now considering expelling the club from the league.
If that happens UEFA would exclude Sion from the Europa League, handing Celtic a place in the group stage irrespective of what happens in their tie.

Could this actually happen, or is it all press talk?

if this is going to happen id be looking to uefa to make a decision quickly - the game is only next week ffs.

id have much preferred to get there the honest way but if they get thrown out who are we to complain about a free pass to the group stages :50:

I don't know anything about this situation but newspapers always report the most extreme outcome because it sells, even if it isn't very likely to happen.

Cant believe this will happen. I would prefer another source than the DR.

If this happens this would be at a greater advantage to us in terms of injuries and signing a keeper etc.

I doubt this will come to pass. I've never heard of anything similar and it would be a legal minefield for the Swiss authorities to expel a member club.

Probably some sabre rattling by the Swiss FA to bring them into line.

At the moment pretty everything could happen, though being booted out of the swiss premier league seems unlikely.

the fact remains they haven't used one of their new signings yet (Gabri and Goncalves are among them) and I really doubt, even if they could, they won't use them against us - if yes, it's gonna be a huge advantage since they haven't played together yet.

Would celtic miss out on matchday revenue if we got a by? how could we make that back?

i want to play this tie, or the press will just tag us as jammy gits. the players will get more confidence from beating sion than getting a by.

I'd be pleased with this. I know we should beat Sion, but there's no guarentee.
If it did happen, would a group stage game be available on the season ticket instead of the qualifier?

Would feel a bit cheap to go through like that, but going through is what matters most and I think we'd get over when the group games start.

    Doubt it'll happen though.

No chance that will happen at such short notice.
