Always thought Maloney was really unlucky in his second spell. Would always start the season on fire and get injured for the rest of the season. Can hardly remember a bad game he had for us from Mowbray's season onwards, but then again he must have only played about 25 games :giggle1:

When you look back at some of goals, it’s easy to forget just how good he was at times. Definitely underrated.

Could he maybe be Damien Duff's replacement?

He has a decent job with the Belgium team, I doubt he will leave that to be 1st team coach with us.

Your probably right. But he is a Celtic born and bred man so the chance to be part of what could be a historic season might also be a lure for him to return to Celtic.

He left Celtic as a reserve coach to go to Belgium. He left Celtic as a player to sign on a Bosman for Villa after Celtic stuck by him through long-term injuries.

I get what your saying but he did play for us for about 10 years making over 200 appearances and scoring over 50 goals for us. I can also say having spent some time with him when he was at Chicago Fire that as well as being a very down to earth and class individual he is a Celtic man no question.

Celtic are plotting a swoop to * Shaun Maloney from Belgium after this summer’s Euros as part of the rebuild which will be fronted up by Aussie boss Ange Postecoglou.

While Postecoglou remains in Japan waiting to be given a green light to fly to Glasgow, Record Sport can reveal former Parkhead striker Maloney has already held initial discussions with outgoing chief executive Peter Lawwell on a possible return to the club after he assists Roberto Martinez at this summer’s tournament.

It’s understood Maloney has been lined up for a key strategic role as part of the club’s restructuring but the 38-year-old is holding off for as long as his close friend Fergal Harkin remains in contention for the position of director of football.

But we understand, while the Irishman is unlikely to land that job, Maloney has been earmarked to play a major role in Celtic’s big shake up

Maloney has signed a contract with the Belgian FA until after next year’s World Cup in Qatar but, with Martinez now expected to return to club management in time for next season, the former Scotland international is likely to have no lack of options on the table.

Martinez is believed to be among the front runners to take over at Barcelona and the Spaniard would want to take Maloney with him to the Nou Camp.

But Celtic will hope the emotional pull of a return to Glasgow’s East End - coupled with the lure of building a new culture for the club - may convince Maloney to go it alone

Maloney has asked for time to focus fully on Belgium’s bid to conquer Europe this summer and Record Sportunderstands Celtic are in no rush to make an appointment behind the scenes while they close in on putting Postecoglou in place as Neil Lennon’s successor.

Would be astonished if he didn't follow Martinez to Barca. If he goes there that is.

So now Harkin isn't getting the DoF job??

I know these are all just rumours but it sounds like our outgoing CEO is absolutely scrambling to put something together.

    1. Why the * is Lawwell doing anything? The * is incompetent and supposed to be out the door anyway.
    2. Why isn’t Dom McKay doing something? You don’t hire a CEO unless he expresses a clear plan at the interview.

Maloney would be someone I’d like to see at the club but these types of rumours hint that there is no plan whatsoever and we’re scrambling day to day to come up with something and trying to use ‘contacts’ to put something together.

Although I don’t see why it matters. Everycunt is buying season books anyway, why not just stick Lennedy in charge?
