Votes from non draft participants will not be counted, so don't bother.

    READ THIS FIRST:

Once your team is ready, post your line up in here and any tactics you'd employ in this match. Once both teams are up, I'll put up the poll.

You can vote for yourself (votes for your own team should eliminate each other out) or you can vote against yourself to end your misery quicker. Up to you.

Votes from non-draft participants won't be counted, so don't bother.

Finally, rather than just voting, it would be good if people could justify why they think a particular team would win. :50:

Now, before everyone immediately looks at @Minty 's Messi and Pele combo and makes a rash decision I'd like to plead my case.

    I feel my team is more than a match here, despite that combination, which even I can't ignore. My 'magnificent 7' at the back however, has more than enough quality and experience to keep them out. The addition of this man to my ranks;

...Has taken my midfield to an even greater level. That diamond of Makelele-Matthaus- Totti is utterly wankworthy and betters Mint's.

In defence, my central pairing, once again, is better. Nesta and Desailly- you ain't bettering that. At RB I have the man who a young Cafu used to study no doubt in the hope of one day emulating him, Carlos Alberto, the man who many class as the greatest RB ever. Even Abidal at LB, is a hugely underrated player. This is a guy with 67 French caps and who was part of Guardiola's original, all conquering Barca side.

In attack, I still have more than enough to compete. Cristiano Ronaldo and Eusebio are not going to fear anything put up against them here, with Mazzolla (a man with 2 European Cups and who was the best player in the greatest Inter side ever) providing even more goals. Totti in behind is more than a match for Rivaldo and is IMO, the better player.

In summary, I feel my defence and midfield is stronger and has enough to nullify the obvious threats Minty poses, while my attack contains two of the greatest goalscorers ever, both of whom, depending on who you asked, people would claim are the greatest ever. Eusebio is a guy who scored 727 in 715 games in Europe...Pele could only do it against South American diddies....

"For me Eusébio will always be the best player of all time" - Alfredo Di Stefano

I also have a number of game changers on the bench, depending on how things were going. Sanchez most notably, could provide extra firepower, with over 487 career goals.

I can't see a way in which my team doesn't win this match. The overall quality in my team is much higher, with all of my players playing in their best position, which gives great balance to the side.

Xavi is the best midfielder on the park, imo and he and Busquets won so much together, so I'm not worried about Makelele or Matthaus, as good as they were. I think my midfield 3 equals, if not betters, his.

Rivaldo is better as a 10 than Totti, imo.

I'd say the centre back pairings are very close. You don't have 6 Champions League titles between your two centre backs without them having something special. I admire Monaghans defence, but I don't see them stopping the greatest player of all time, along with Pele (arguably 2nd or 3rd G.o.a.t) and the genius of Ronaldinho. That's before you even consider Rivaldo backing them up or Xavi pinging amazing passes to them.

Personally I think my full backs and goalie are better too.

Finally, I'd argue that my bench is stronger, with more of a chance to change the game. I've still got Jairzinho sitting there, who could come on for either Messi or Rivaldo. Messi switching to a central role if Jairzinho was to come on for Rivaldo, giving me different options in attack. Aguero able to come on and get goals and Davids could come on and provide extra protection for the defence, later in the game.

I've pinpointed the exact moment Mr Monaghan started clutching at straws. :giggle1:

No way Staam and Costacurta betters Nesta and Desailly as a partnership.

Matthaus is a guy who won the Ballon D'Or and could do everything, a one man locomotive. I'd have him ahead of Xavi any day.

I admit your combination is good with those pair but at the other end of the park I'm hardly short. I think Eusebio and Ronaldo would have more joy against your defence than your attack would against mine.

As good a combination as you have, I think I win the defence and midfield battle and that means more on the face of it.

Normally Messi and Pele would be enough but this isn't a normal match up.

Sandro Mazzola wasn't a wide player either, so Monaghan's team lacks attacking width on the right side at all times. C.Ronaldo can't cover two wings at once.

So tough to separate two amazing line ups..

Have to go with Minty though as he has the 2nd and 3rd best players of all time.

He could very easily play wide.

You don't win the midfield battle. Xavi is a superior player to Matthaus even though they did different roles. Rivaldo is better than Totti as well.

Stam and Costacurta are on the exact same level as Nesta and Desailly in terms of ability. Their careers back that up.

My attack is unstoppable, yours isn't. Your front 3 doesn't have the right kind of balance.

No-where near his best position though. Your team lacks width.

Nah, disagree. Full backs would bomb on, both of the inside forwards are more than capable of spreading wide as well if that isn't enough.

Plenty of flexibility in that attack.

There's no point going on here cos' we ain't gonna exactly * all over our teams:56:, but I think you are making some iffy statements. I'll happily admit when another team is better but there isn't as big a gap here as you are portraying, Mint.

Yes, but the players I have in my position were more natural wide players. Ronaldo can play wide just fine, but Mazzola wasn't a natural winger even if he could do a job there.

When I say stuff, I hope no-one takes it personally. Just a friendly football debate. lol

I don't think there's a huge gap at all, you have a good team. I just, sincerely, think mine would win this match 9 times out of 10.
