Discuss Scottish League 1 & League 2 2018/19 in the Scottish Football area at TalkCeltic.net.
Sad news today that former Arbroath stalwart John McGlashan passed away aged only 50 after suffering with Motor Neuron Disease.
Quite a private guy so not a lot of people knew he was ill. Spent a few years playing down south in the 90s and became a manager after hanging up his boots, a popular figure among Junior Football around Tayside and Angus
Good goal from Ross Gilmour this week
None of his teammates even celebrated lol
Must have been getting pumped, but still..
Queens Park support going daft away in Wales here. 2 late goals to turn it around.
Aw * 2 each the 10 men equalise
* flying this season.
Along with Liverpool, only unbeaten team
Do you follow these leagues much Marty ? Or just your local teams ? Whenever I think of these leagues I always remember an article I read in a betting magazine a few years ago about a guy called Tony Ansell who used to bet on these leagues. He said he made a lot of money betting on these leagues because bookies didn't used to understand them. His basic premise was UK bookies priced up Annan v Berwick the same way they would as Man Utd v Liverpool but he believed the psychology of it was different.
He believed bookies often underestimated the away teams as he put it like this " imagine being a home player in front of such a small crowd where you can hear every criticism of your individual mistakes. As opposed to the away player who has got on the bus with his mates on the morning and travelled down, probably watching a *. Who is going to be more relaxed and play their game ?"
Think there was a bit more to his betting than that but he said it took a few years before the online bookies appreciated they had to treat these games differently.
Just the local teams mate, was with Arbroath for a year when I was 18, always look out for their results. Also my Grandad is a diehard.
That’s really interesting actually. I alway often thought about the travel too when thinking about a coupon, these teams would more often than not travel on the day of the game. Angus to Dumfries being a lonnng time sitting on a bus to then play football, never worked though
Any idea why Arbroath are doing so well this season then Marty ?I always buy the Racing Post pullout before the season to see how the seasons predictions go. Can you guess where Arbroath were ranked as fav's for that league at the start of the season and who would have been more highly fancied ?
Bobby Linn is having a stormer of a season so that helps. Also, I think * Campbell has been around the block enough to know how to play these leagues, has good contacts and gets decent players in. Gavin Swankie is back again too and he brings a lot to them with good experience.
I’d say they were maybe fancied for 5th place?
Raith or Stranraer more fancied?
Pretty close Marty. Joint 4th
East Fife 20-1
Queens Park 12-1
So Arbroath and Edinburgh exceeding all the bookies opinions. Those are across all bookies (not just one).
Arbroath v Raith on Sat @Marty McFly .Home win and surely just give them the title.
Raith don’t seem to like trips North of the Tay, failing to beat Forfar, Montrose and Brechin away.
Will be tight and some game but I expect Arbroath to sneak it. Hoping to get along actually.
Game on ? @Marty McFly
Haha. Aye possible.
Few Arbroath lads had a Christmas night oot last night, minds must have been on that
Fair play to the young lads
What are they saying? It sounds like sudsy! Maybe they are telling their mams how they want their bath?
1-0 Ross County v East Fife. Let's just hope it's no ruled out by * VAR.
