SCOTT BROWN has vowed to help Celtic gain revenge over Cluj — and this time it’s personal.

The Parkhead skipper, was at fault when Dan Petrescu’s side ended the Hoops’ Champions League hopes last month.

Brown’s crazy handball gifted the Romanians a penalty as Neil Lennon’s side suffered a shock 4-3 home defeat.

So he’s determined to make up for his mistake when the sides meet at Celtic Park again — this time in the Europa League — on Thursday.

Brown said: “I think we owe them one to be perfectly honest — and especially me.

“In the last match I gave away a hand ball, and that is not like me. It was just one of those freak moments.

Is it still in the back of my mind? There’s a LOT in the back of my mind! There’s a big book there! But you don’t dwell on it too long.

“The good thing about football is that there is another game three or four days later where you can go out there and prove everyone wrong.

We’re in a good place just now — but we were in a good place before the Champions League game as well.

“It was just one sloppy game where we probably didn’t perform as well as we should have.

“It was a disappointing performance but we are in the Europa League now, and we’ve got Cluj yet again.

“We know how they play and they know how we play. It’s going to be a good game.”

Celtic began their Europa League campaign with a draw in Rennes while Cluj won at home to Lazio.

And Brown knows his side have to try and make home advantage count this time around .

He said: “I think the Europa League — as well as the Champions League — is getting harder and harder.

“The teams we’ve faced haven’t exactly been the easiest.

“But that is football — you want to compete against these teams and try to get the three points, especially at home.

“They will come here confident, they played really well the last time.

“But we need to make sure we start to make Celtic Park into a fortress yet again.

It is the fans, the fantastic support, that helps us out. You can ask a lot of players about it — they feel it as well.

“Players can still get spooked by it, especially on European nights or in Old Firm games.

“The crowd get behind us with every single tackle, every forward pass, and every chance we create.”

“There is always that little bit of a fear factor at play.”

Absolutely rolled back the years tonight. Outstanding. Limping at the end there. Hope it's nothing.

For those who are in love.....
    was superb..

    Rattled their midfield big time..

Just a minor point but when he goes full throttle in to tackles just use the nut a bit. I've noticed this a fair bit but when he goes in he has a habit of getting it off the man but putting it in to an area where we're immediately getting countered on. Same with headers. Going for headers and it coming off the back of his head and going in to dangerous positions..

    He was honestly excellent though..

Man of the match I thought, although there were a good few contenders tbh.

    Bossed the midfield all night.

    Great captain

For his age a machine , nowadays he has good games and Iffy games more often on the good side though still.

Shouldn't be playing every game like he is though. This is the season we a should be slowly using him less and less with a view to finding a long term partner for mcgregor .

Totally bossed their midfielders, these games/nights are made for Broony.
Hope we don't flog him, should not be playing 3 games in 9 days, especially with depth of quality of squad now. Really need him for European games, rest against dross.

Was excellent for 60mins, really excellent but thought he tired towards the end..

Can see why Lenny was reluctant to withdraw him though. We don't have another player like him. McGregor could have went deeper and Ntcham would have brought what he can bring, but we lack steel without him and that was needed last night.

If Kouassi isn't going to make it a DM in Jan is a priority, along with a replacement for the inevitable departure of Edouard.

CELTIC haven’t been second best in Scotland for a long time.

But Scott Brown reckons being knocked off top spot could HELP their nine-in-a-row bid.

The Hoops captain admits Neil Lennon’s champions shock defeat to Livingston is a wake-up call.

Celtic have been dominant in Scotland for the last eight years — but now they trail leaders Rangers.

Broony believes there will be more twists and turns but hopes the Livi loss sharpens his side’s focus.

He said: “We always expect a reaction.

It’s disappointing, especially going into the international break when you have a couple of weeks until your next game.

“But sometimes it’s good for you as well.

We’ve had a wake-up call before when we’ve lost the lead during the season and we have then managed to bounce back.

“This team has that willingness to win games. It wasn’t our day, we didn’t perform as well as we can.

“But it’s a long season and we know we can do better.

“It was a hard day. Livi made it extremely difficult for us.

They were very aggressive on the front foot and defended well.

They are well organised and played really well. We didn’t play as well as we could have.

“We want to win every game. It’s not just these games, it’s every single game at home and away. For us coming here and dropping three points is disappointing.

“But it’s a long season and we need to make sure we get over that and play better in the next game.”

Ryan Christie’s first-half red card was a crucial moment in the game as Celtic went down to 10 men.

But Brown reckons ref Willie Collum could also have sent off Livi ace Keaghan Jacobs for a late challenge on Jonny Hayes.

He said: “I’ve not seen it back, but I saw the late tackle over on the far side. It was a two footed lunge as well. At that time the game is gone anyway, but you’ve got to be consistent.

“Ryan is not trying to hurt anybody. It’s not in his nature, he is a great lad, very honest.

“It’s one of those and we should try and dig him out a little bit more because of how well he has done for us this season.

He said: “You can’t panic but I am expecting better.

“I did tell them before the game that the fixture was a concern.

“It’s a dangerous opponent in a dangerous environment.

“I knew Livingston would up for it and they were. We needed to match that. It’s a poor result.

“We started the game okay, we were quite bright and there was a good tempo and intensity. Then we lose Ryan very early and we have to readjust.

“We were okay going in at half-time and I felt we could go on and win it.

“But it was really passive from us for the first goal and then we have tried to force the issue with ten men.

“We put a certain amount of pressure on the goal without working the Livi goalkeeper enough.

“Our decision making wasn’t great at time and then we should be doing better at the second goal.

“We should be dealing with that really.

“It’s a straight ball over the top and Lyndon Dykes got in behind the two centre halves.

“It’s a great finish but he should never get into that position there.

“It’s possibly down to fatigue. They are human beings and they put a lot into the game on Thursday.

“Then you need to play a long time with ten men, and so that could well have been a factor.

“I hoped the subs would help us but they didn’t really impact the game as we would have liked.

“I didn’t really think about making more changes. We put a strong team out.

“We were comfortable early on in a very difficult environment without really testing their goal.”
