I think £3m for Gauld is quite steep in all honesty.

It's far too steep. He's one of the most overrated players in Scotland. He had a good start to the season and did next to nothing for the last 6 months.

A move that is good for Scotland I think, in a leagr renowned for developing young players and playing technical football.

£2.2 million floating about on Twitter, would be more realistic IMO.

Can't understand the negativity towards it, in an ideal World all of the young Scottish talent goes elsewhere and improves in better environments. If they are good enough they will thrive, if they aren't they'll come back as better players.

The negativity comes from being Scottish I think. If a young lad from Italy, Spain, Germany or even England commands such a fee no one bats an eyelid. He's Scottish though, so he can't surely be worth that kind of money or interest is the thoughts of some.

I don't think that is the reason at all really. I think it's more to do with the fact that what he has done up until now in the Scottish game, in a poor standard of league if we are being honest, doesn't warrant him being worth the fee stated in my opinion. He has looked good in spells, but he hasn't done enough I don't think to be valued at £3m. Good on him and Dundee Utd however, if they do manage to get that amount for him.

Much of it will be based on potential though. I mean Shaw was bought by Man U for 10x that after a decent season but mainly because of his potential.

Remember in the 2nd half of the season he was bullied of the ball by the hatchets in the league. In Portugal he will have more time.

    Brilliant move to develop

£3M is nothing in todays market.

In the grand scheme of things £3 million is * all nowadays. If he goes to Portugal and does halfway decent he'll end up in the EPL with a £6 million transfer fee without much issue.

He's a prospect, and that's the going rate for them these days.

£3m is nothing in some markets, I agree. That doesn't apply to the Scottish market however I wouldn't say. £3m is a big fee in the Scottish game. I'm just not convinced he has done enough yet to justify that price tag. It's pointless bringing English transfers into the debate in all honesty, as we all know that the transfer fees down South are ridiculous to say the least.

£3 million is a big fee in the Scottish game, but it's not a Scottish club paying it, is it? In Portugal they have a reputation for bringing young lads through (of all nationalities) and selling them on at profit. That will be the aim here no doubt.

It's still a big fee for a player who has only had a good half a season in the SPL, that's my point.

This. Luke Shaw went for a ridiculous amount though, he's good and got potential but this is a player who got 0 goals and 0 assists in 38 league games last season.

I hope Gauld thrives out there, he's brave for taking this step
