There is no comparison to be made. We won an invincible treble in Brendan's first season AND qualified for the group's (something no manager has done in their first season of current CL format) and had a good showing in a group of death.

This season we qualify again, another group of death and same points tally but Europa place after Xmas. We played a decent side and shat it away from home while still on course for another treble, albeit a slightly less glamorous one than last season.

I think others are seeing regression that simply isn't there.

An invincible treble has never been done neither has back to back trebles..

Performances have been inconsistent compared to a perfect season last year.

These are magic times to be a Tim don't let any * belittle our dominance. It's a sweet sweet thing!

Mate I think it’s clear as day that we have regressed.

Last season in the CL we had a fantastic game against City at home. They were a machine in the EPL and had won every league game up until that point I’m sure. Some of our football was excellent and having taken the lead 3 times, we really should have won.

Also got a good draw in Germany against BMG and another draw at the Etihad, where again we should have won. That’s 3 good results and performances. The only game where we were soundly beaten was obviously away at Barcelona.

This season we had 1 positive result in the group stage. We were on the end of 5 defeats, including 2 demolitions and a home loss to Anderlecht, and somehow still managed to finish 3rd.

Great performance against Zenit last week however it wasn’t enough. Let’s be honest, as good as we were last week...they were really poor. We should have beaten them by more than one goal. Then we collapsed in the away leg.

So that’s 8 games in Europe - 2 wins, 6 defeats. Scored 6 and conceded 21 I think? Absolutely grim.

That’s just Europe. In the league there’s been an obvious regression.

The problem is that Brendan isn't learning anything, we keep making the same mistakes over and over.

Let me ask you something how many games did you expect to win in those groups?

I'm not saying our performances have been good or our CL campaigns have been enjoyable.

But I honesty maybe expected to beat Anderlecht at home and not lose to BMG at home. From those groups we got more than expected. As I was saying last night this is where we are at.. CL qualification is the achievement.

Think people have a perception gap of where we are as a Club.

He's simultaneously too arrogant to change his tactics to play more defensively and too cowardly to actually instill in his players that we actually have a chance of winning.

    Weird.

Expect to win? Well Anderlecht at home. That’s it.

Last season, none of them really. Maybe BMG at home I felt we could win, particularly after the 3-3 against City.

    But that’s not the point.

Last season’s CL group results I was happy enough with. I thought we gave a decent account of ourselves. It’s this season I have a problem with.

While I didn’t expect us to beat Bayern or PSG...losing 7-1 and 5-0 against PSG in the same group stage is just not good enough mate.

I expected to lose them, but to get * demolished in both games...

I don't expect us to be beating the big guns of Europe, but losing 5, 6 and 7 goals is just embarrassing and demoralising for both players and supporters.

The expectation is to actually put some effort in and not perform so gutlessly against a team we dominated just one week previously.

Do you actually believe this * that we should just be happy to be there and continually get embarassed in Europe?

    Exactly.

I expect us to make it as hard as possible for those teams to score against us.

What sort of mindset is that?

Uck we wont win it anyway so * it, just put us out.

I want us to play as well as we can and see where it takes us. Which we haven’t done.

Yes. And for that, pragmatism and a sturdy mentality are required. Rodgers thinks we're like Liverpool. Even Liverpool have to defend sometimes. It's just naive and arrogant to refuse to adapt.

So what would you have BR change then we played a pressing defensive shape last night.

The individual mistakes from Simunovic, De Vries & Lustig cost as badly.

Recruitment is the issue with proper backing.

Even when we were 2 nil down a goal would've seen us get thru, but we just continued to constantly go backwards and sideways, the players actually looked as though they had a fear about them and had never played together, i thought Zenit were very average and that makes our performace even worse.

Aye I agree there is a fear and he needs to take overall responsibility for that.
