    Goals were expected. Easy money.:50:

Rui Vitória still haven't managed a victory in the clássicos: 5 games, 5 losses. Choker, so far.

Rui Vitória did it! His first victory in the big games, and when it counted the most.

Sporting 0-1 Benfica. Mitroglou with the winner. 15 goals in the league.

After 3 defeats against Sporting (supercup, cup and 0-3 in the league), plus being 7 points behind in the league, it has been nothing less than an outstanding recovery.

9 games to the end. Porto still in the race as well.

    Aka the iceman.

He's taking advantage of his teammates injuries (Luisão and Lisandro) and I can't see him leave the starting team anytime soon. Jardel won't play in Saint Petersburg so the only doubt is who'll play alongside him against Zenit.

Benfica always had luck with swedish players. Stromberg, Jonas Thern, Stefan Schwarz, Magnusson and now Lindelof. Plus Eriksson.

Good to hear, I really want to see him in the euros this summer, sweden has really been lacking good central defenders since mellberg stopped playing.

Its good to see a player come through the ranks like that.

    Benfica 5-1 Braga.

Jonas reached 30 goals in the league and assisted Pizzi with his back for the third.

Mitroglou scored twice, 18 in the league.

I seen great partnerships in Benfica, but this two probably take the gold. 48 goals in the league so far.

I wrote this in November, 2015.

A few weeks later, he started playing regularly in the main squad.

Today, in May 2016, he was sold for 35M€ + 45M€ in objectives (games played, being part of world's best 11, etc), adding up to a total of 80M€. He's still 18 years old.

Such is the life of a young footballer. Another wonderkid that leaves Benfica way too soon.

35 league titles. Third in a row.

Rui Vitória, who started poorly, ended up setting the record for most points in the portuguese league (88 points in 34 games), breaking Mourinho's record, when Porto finished with 86 points and faced Celtic in the UEFA Cup final.

Ederson (will represent Brazil in the Copa America), Nelson Semedo, Lindelof (called for the swedish squad, Euro2016) and Renato Sanches (sold to Bayern for 35+45M€ in future clauses) confirmed that the future is bright, with the talent coming from the youth teams.

Great season for Benfica, is Renato Sanches that good, what style of player is he?

I remember a year or two ago Carvalho from Sporting was hyped up and linked with £30million moves to Arsenal and Man Utd but when I watched him he looked quite average and was as slow as anything, just looked like a poor mans Wanyama.

    Thank you both:50:

Renato Sanches is a very powerful and fast (with the ball) midfielder, who needs to improve his passing and decisions. I believe that will come with more maturity and the right managers, since he's really young. It's only natural that his game awareness, both with and without the ball, improves greatly in the next few years. He has six months of high level football. Rui Vitória commonly describes Renato as a salvage player.

There aren't many players like him in the game; he can bring the ball forward and unbalance the opposition in the counter but he's also the first closing in when the ball is lost. He's technically gifted and has a great shot, so improving his passing will probably make him a world class midfielder. The modern "8" has to be very complete and he got it all, reuniting that technical quality with the defensive and physical aspects of the game. He's fast both going up and down the field.

Other thing really important in order to triumph is personality. In this case, we're talking about a 18 year old who entered the team in it's worst moment, after being dragged in the mud by Sporting, and did it with an astonishing calm, leading the team back to the top. Yesterday, he even leaded the party in Marquês de Pombal:smiley-laughing002:

I truly believe Bayern got themselves a gem here. They only need to treat him well, be patient and always remind themselves that he's a kid. Really hope things work out for him and he can return one day, after enjoying Champions League football on a regular basis.

Regarding William Carvalho, he was always overrated. The joke was even bigger when they were talking about those kinds of sums with Matic playing in the opposite side of the road. The player to watch in Sporting's midfield is João Mário. A good player, with great feet.

Jorge Jesus made a fool of himself this year, even saying that he didn't consider Rui Vitória a manager, but he also improved some players, took them to the next level. João Mário was probably the one who most benefited from him. The other project Jesus had in hands, André Carrillo (Jorge Jesus likes technical players), signed for Benfica and will join in the summer. Those are the players more cut to play in a great club, João Mário and Carrillo. Slimani will probably make a good contract as well, in the Premier League, maybe Leicester.
