Do think he was overhyped tho.. his quality was evident such an elegant player.. he maybe lacked a little bit of arrogance/cheek that the best of the best have..

He’s certainly the best midfielder I’ve seen in the Hoops.. better than a Lambert, Brown, Wanyama, Lubo, Collins.. for me..

Certain players were class but not World class, other players were classy or different class, then you had the ones who were in a class of their own but you wouldn't class them as World class.

He’s didn’t sustain his form long enough to be considered World Class..

Lambert won the Champions League and marked Zidane out the Final, Brown has won that much more it’s frightening, Vic was a monster in Europe and has went on and done it at the highest level in England, Lubo was just unadulterated genius and Collins went on and had a better career as well.

Was McStay your hero growing up by chance?

    How old are you?

Trying to work out if he was your boyhood hero and that's why you have him on a pedestal

Edit.....see Paul beat me to the last point

For me its one of them were my head says no but my heart says aye. To be considered world class imo you have to have excelled at the highest level and be one of the first players who comes into peoples minds when they think about the best players in that position. So nah, on that basis i can't consider him world class. That said though i have absolutely no doubts that had he chosen to leave us and play amongst the best players in the world at the time (which he had the option to do) he wouldn't have looked out of place at all. Him and Collins were my heroes growing up and pretty much held their own against a financially doped huns team by themselves, if it wasn't for them we'd have been destroyed in just about every game against them at the time. Any player who can single handedly make a team as bad as we were back then competitive against a doped up side like that has to be considered world class ability wise, i shudder to think what would've happened if we didn't have him and JC at that time.

Loved them all.. especially Lambert.. but McStay lived and breathed us as well as being an excellent footballer his performances and consistency in the Centenary Season was something I’ll never forgot he put in the best season I’ve ever seen from a Celtic player.. in such a special season..

I had lots of Hero’s growing up, loved Judas the most.. :54:

I never claimed he was World class I said he was rated the 3rd best goalie in the world, that's a fact I was sharing, he was a far better goalie than Forster!

I think he’s a * I never wanted anywhere near Celtic Park after his behaviour of the last year with us.

There is no denying, however, around 2008 he was in the bracket with the best across the entire World.
