He was what he was mate, a mistake prone keeper capable of pulling off some magnificent saves. He was always that.

    He’s like a Joe Hart.

Its maybe fair to say he regressed into a keeper of that mould in his 2nd season. But he was every bit as good as his 2 predecessor in his first season.

Cant agree with that given how poor Bains been since BR left but fair enough if you think Gordons time has been and gone.

Beautiful Sunday - the IRA version
When we talk about players that need replaced and positions that need filled, we need to remember it's not just the ones who left in this window that will need replaced, it's also all the other players that left in the windows previously who were never replaced to begin with. And as the problems are never adequately addressed, they never go away, they just multiply.

For example, Armstrong, Dembele and Roberts have been gone for over a year, but we haven't bothered to replace any of them with suitable quality, or in some cases, we just haven't bothered replacing them at all. So these insufficiencies continue to hang over us, never mind the difficulties associated with the more recent departures of Lustig, Boyata and Benkovic.

And what have we done so far to rectify this? We've simply found a replacement for Boyata by signing Jullien. That signing might be welcome but it's still a significant way short of where we need to be. In fact, it isn't even the very bare minimum anymore as we're still one down at the back considering the loss of Benkovic as well. So we've not actually strengthened, or even remained still, as it stands, we've regressed, and that will remain the case until another quality CB is acquired.

And what else do we need? Well, obviously a RB that should have been replaced 18 months ago; a goal-scoring midfielder - particularly one that can score from outside the box - like Armstrong; someone to replace either Sinclair or the void left by Roberts; and someone in the Dembele mould.

These types of signings are not merely aspirational, they are essential. We don't need just one of them, a few of them, or even most of them, we need all of them if we are to prevent any further regression in the quality of our squad. Yet will we get them? Will we *. And this is really the point. Such is the cumulative effect of these persistent failures to replace decent first-team players at the appropriate time that we now struggle to remedy our deficiencies in just one transfer window because the task is so overwhelming. In fact, it would probably take three or four transfer windows just to get us back to where we should have been at the beginning of the 2017/2018 season. This is absolutely horrific mismanagement.

Who else could have presided over such a mess? Well, here’s a clue.

Having just won three back-to-back titles, and reached the last-16 of the CL two years in succession, we were going for our fourth title, albeit with a much depleted squad – largely a result of failure to reinforce from a position of real strength in the years previously.
A particular element of the Celtic support told us (the panty wetters that is :36:) there was nothing to worry about: sure we’d just done three-in-a-row. We were the dominant force, who cares about who that other mob sign, sure they’re * anyway, they’ll never catch us.

They seemed to be right. As of January of 2009 we’ve got a 7-point lead. But our two strikers seem incapable of staying fit throughout the season – at various points we have to call on Cillian Sheridan to play up front. This is a position that should have addressed long before now, but we’ve got by. Meanwhile Steven Fletcher is available at Hibs. Perfect for us, just what we need. A promising young Scottish striker, banging in the goals. However, our esteemed Chief Executive thinks it an outlay not worth making. We end up losing the league that year, failing to string more than 3 wins on the trot after January, and appropriately enough, drawing the last two games of the season 0-0.

And what did we get for that splendid bit of financial prudence? Well, a loss of over 20m for failing to qualify for the Champions League group stages for the first time in 4 years, a massive rebuild, and three years of not winning our title when we should have been making it six-in-a-row.

But never mind. Nothing to worry about. Sure we've just won a treble treble.

At least Lennon is confirming what we all know in terms of needing players he said “we are nowhere near finished with additions to the squad” also a few will be heading out in a “natural progression” in other words get them to * they aren’t good enough!

We don’t miss Roberts or Armstrong. That’s the last two positions we should be looking at.

Both good players. But neither would get in our team now.

We most certainly do miss Armstrong.

Among his many other fine attributes (sadly lacking in the likes of Ntcham), he contributed 15+ goals from midfield during the Invincible season. We don’t have a midfielder capable of replicating those numbers in our current squad – it’s hardly a surprise we’re now below the Huns for goals scored in the SPFL.

You’ve, not for the first time, spectacularly missed the point. Even if it were true that Forrest is better than Roberts (which is debatable), it still stands that he is not capable of playing over 60+ games a season. And yet as that position is an important part of our offensive system, we cannot simply allow an untested prospect, or worse still, a below-average journeyman to be filling in when Forrest is either unfit or out of form.

We are worse off as a squad for the failure to replace those players.

Lennon is not taking his interest in ex-Leicester full-back Danny Simpson any further after opening talks with an unnamed player and all but securing Elhamed from Hapoel Be’er Sheva ahead of tonight’s clash with Nomme Kalju.

He said: “That [Simpson] is not happening. We are down the line with one player, so he is going through the medical process.

“We got the work permit yesterday so Hatem is doing the paperwork
and medical in Paris as
we speak.”

Isn’t he just talking about Hatem?

Hopefully not, but that’s what I got from that.

“Right-back has been difficult for Celtic over the last few years, but a lot of clubs are in the same position.

“But we are close with Hatem and in negotiations with another.”
