Is it socially acceptable to go for pints on your own?

of course it is,if your anyway sociable you'll find somebody to have a blether with,or maybe you'd just rather be on your tod for a while. i do it often but i usually end up meeting someone i know and have a pint with them before i head for my local to have the last couple of pints before i head home.

Never done it personally, sounds like either alky or weirdo behaviour.

Gone for a pint on me own plenty of times,i enjoy just relaxing and watching a bit of footy on the box.
However not every can sit on their own and relax and enjoy a beer some people just feel awkward sitting on their own.

Of course it is. Anyone that needs their hand held to go into the pub obviously has confidence issues.

Totally acceptable in any part of Ireland due to the fact that you will always fall in with the pub cronies. It’s a way of keeping company here. To share and receive words of wisdom from bards that will only stand on a soap box in that particular local. The place to find out whose dead, whose knocking of who and when they don’t wanna go home to the wife. Some of the most educated men that have never been quoted frequent these establishments alone. And it is also the place that a good story grows arms and legs to become a fantastic story by single attendees passed to other singleton dwellers to pass down through the ages. But for me, never been in a pub by myself but it’s o.k.

I wouldn’t be in to getting * in the pub by myself but I’d go in for one or two no bother.

If I’m gonna drink alone though I’d rather just get cans.

I rarely even drink alone at my house, drinking is purely a social thing for me so i couldn't really go to the pub unless I knew my mates were there or I was meeting a girl there. See lots of folk at my local who'll happily go there on their own and then just talk to whoever's there, some even go in for a few games of pool with anybody they might find there, which is fair enough each to their own and all that. It really isn't for me though.

Never done it purely since i think people would assume I was a weirdo.

Saying that, if anyone came in for a drink alone while I used to work in a bar i'd think that about them. Unless it was a wee old fella. That was somehow acceptable.

Do it often. Good place for a think and to watch a game of sport. Don’t ever have drink at home so would rather have a few by myself in a pub than have a few by myself at home.

I went into my local a few month ago and ordered a pint whilst I was waiting for my Da to make his way over, atleast 7 people came up and asked if i was ok :56: one couple who I barely even knew but knew my da insisted on staying with me even though they were on their way home when they saw me.

I suppose it's a bit different as I was usually in the pub 2 or 3 times a week with a group of 4 or 5 but it was still bizarre and has put me off going in for a quiet one by myself.

As others say though when you go by yourself you usually end up with others, everytime I go to my local to watch a premier league game we end up getting the 3 or 4 guys there by themselves over to the table and have a laugh.
