Been lucky and old enough to have seen them all,and even left out a huge number of other guys like Connelly,Jinky,Kenny,Henrik,Best,ZZ,I could go on and on the,but every now and then someone pops up from nowhere.
Are we just lucky enough to be seeing so many class players or will someone else come on the scene in the next few years and leave us totally breathless like Ronaldo did tonight.
I honestly love wee Messi but you cudny put a baw hair between him and Ronaldo, both are totally incredible.

Maradona for me, maybe my memories of seeing him when younger have skewed my decision. But * me what a player, plus he is a cocky wee * I love that about him.

"A little guy of 1.67 metres beat a big guy of 1.88 metres to the ball... but with his hand. It was like I robbed their wallets!

Yep,a total genius of a guy.
Almost single handedly won Argentina the World Cup and likewise won the Italian championship for Napoli.

He had some great team mates in both squads, but as said he is the man that stands alone imo.

Maradona against these defences would be a sight to see.

The only thing that takes away from Ronaldo i'd say in comparison to some of the other best of all time Ronaldinho, Ronaldo(Brazil), Zidane, Iniesta, Xavi, Maldini or older guys like Beckenbauer, Cruyff, Pele, Maradona, Di Stefano, Puskas and whoever is he kind of stands out alone as the only one who doesn't really improve his team mates.

All the others really allow their team mates to flourish as they were all very gifted footballers, quick thinkers who knitted teams together and who they could use to pull the strings but Cristiano you'd say is an outlier in that having him in your team makes your job more difficult as he doesn't get too involved in anything and is more of a goalscorer. Those other guys you feed the ball and wait for them to do their magic where as Cristiano, he waits for other people to feed him mostly and doesn't get involved in much build up.

He had the talent to be like the greatest Figo, Robben, Ribery, Hazard, Neymar type player in the world a creative wide player and driving force of his team who could probably have scored 30 odd goals a season and been sensational to watch but instead he morphed into more of a false-winger in that he spends a lot of time on the left but he doesn't do any of the job or a winger and is more comparible to a player like Van Nistelrooy or Trezeguet.

Messi at his best Is so far ahead of Ronaldo in my opinion - Ronaldo one of the best of all time but Messi is different planet

I think Maradona takes it for me.

Although i think Brazilian Ronaldo at his best was as good as any of them.

People fawn over Brazil but Argentina has produced the two best footballers ever to play the game. I have been fortunate to have watched them both.

Messi I have seen in the flesh. Maradona I unfortunately did not. Scotland played Argentina in a friendly before the 1990 World Cup, which I went to. I was well excited, thought I was going to see the best player ever. He never * played!! Was quite gutted about that one. :54:

I ca never understand why folk thing Maradona’s better than Messi, they’re very similar players except Messi absolutely pumps him when it comes to finding the back of the net.

    There’s a reason he’s Argentina’s top scorer ever.

You had to watch the 86 WC to believe it mate... stats don’t tell you everything..

The goals he scored in 86 were just unbelievable. And for me the WC is the pinnacle for a player as you’re playing for your country.

Love Messi tho and love to see him make a similar impact in this WC..

Messi is a forward. Maradona wasn't. On that basis, making comparisons between their goalscoring records really isn't fair.
