De Le Pena was purely because of historical injuries, of which he had many. Definitely not his ability which everyone knew about.

That being said we should still have signed him and I remember at the time being raging we didn't only for him to go and have the best spell of his career elsewhere and earn Spain caps into the bargain.

De la Pena and Rivaldo were probably the two highest profile ones, without looking at the list you've posted.

I remember us having a chap on trial, a French guy. Coridon or something like that? He'd either played for PSG or signed for PSG afterwards. He looked good on the ball, but slow as anything. This would have been under O'Neill. He also scored some kind of backheel goal for PSG in the Champions League, I think.

    I'm off to Google.

Edit: He joined PSG afterwards, we had him on trial after he left Lens. Here is the goal.

There was striker on trial with us at the same time as Holmbert Fridjonsson called Vidar Kjartansson. We signed Fridjonsson who I don't think played a minute for the first team.

Kjartansson has went on to score 63 goals in his last 98 games for the likes of Malmo and Maccabi Tel Aviv. No world beater but certainly the better player.

Brad Friedel was another famous one. I think that was the Tommy Burns era, when we didn't have the greatest of goalkeepers.

I was happy when we got him, liked him at Juventus on FIFA, haha!

As most notable names it didn't work out.

Speaking of Kapo, was Freddie Ljungberg a trialist?

We also had Zenden on trial when Lennon was in charge, if I recall correctly. Possibly all three were in the same season.

Was at that game weirdly enough. I remember thinking that not signing pletikosa pretty much guaranteed the return of forster, as he was a decent keeper

That's right. The father of Nigel, who played for Ajax, Man City & AC Milan.
