I know the idea to some people of buying a newspaper is a bit weird now but in my house we have had a Sunday Paper round for around 12 years started with my oldest boy and now my youngest 14 year old daughter has it .She makes around £20 a week but as we all know this time of the year is the money earner for her and she can make upto £200 in tips ...ranges from the norm from £5 in a card but some can be £20 ...she has about 25 customers(mainly old folk) all round a fairly rough scheme in Glasgow.I think it gives them a wee bit independance and responsibilty and gets them out there bed for future real life jobs ahead of them

Got me thinking what jobs did you do as a kid ,me I had 2 paper rounds (weekly and a Sunday run).I had mates who would do the milk run in morning .

I had a week day paper round til I discovered how much you could make on the Sunday round, quickly binned the weekday one :giggle1:. I had to use 2 bags to carry the papers and it took about 3hours starting at about 6. As you say at Christmas the tips soared. I had the job for about 4 years so that also seen the tips increase as well. Happy days back then.

Sunday paper round. And the Christmas tips were excellent even back then.

I did a summer at the berries, in the pack house on the farm. Wheeling pallets in and out and loading punnets into trays to go off to the supermarkets. Mental work at times. Did a good few 7am to 11pm shifts. All for about 3 quid an hour :56:

It’s mad sending kids out early before school when you think about it.. surely must effect them.

I’m blaming that for my educational failings..:56:

Used to cut people’s grass during the summer. When you got a few regulars it was a handy way of making a few quid.

used to strip lead from the old tenements before they were demolished.

when i think of it now, i was recycling before it became a fad.

wish i had thought of that when i ended up in court

Likewise I also did fitba coupon rounds, free beer now that would have got my attention. The selling hash was that I was only one big enough to get into the pub it was sold so began taking orders, which led to purchase price reduction, I also went to world cup in Spain at 16 and in the campsite were Danish hash smugglers just back from morocco so got some and smuggled it back which led to 20 odd trips to morocco in my early 20's, I've just been lucky, especially being born a Tim

    Done that as well

Absolutely brutal work. In the sun for 5 hours straight and walk out at the end of your shift with mild heatstroke and about £10 :56:
