Guy was a genius at dribbling, joy to watch.

Pity he looked like he'd just drank 40 pints before a game and looked * after beating half the team.

    Loved him to bits.

PADDY McCourt has been a football magician throughout his career and now he’s passing on his box of tricks to youngsters in his hometown of Derry.

The 34-year-old, who spent five years in Paradise between 2008 and 2013, now splits his time playing for League of Ireland side Finn Harps and running his new ventureThe Talent Development Academy – where he passes on his knowledge and expertise to the next generation of football hopefuls from his local area.

And if they can pick up some of the skills that made the attacking midfielder become known as the ‘Derry Pele’ during his time at Celtic, then it will stand them in good stead in their fledging careers.

Speaking exclusively to this week’s Celtic View, McCourt said: "I’m still playing with Finn Harps part time and I opened a soccer coaching academy in Derry in September so I have been really busy.

"We have 60 kids involved in that and it’s gone really well so far. The longer we go and the more experience we get, we want to try and grow it, but I am really happy with it so far. I’d done my coaching badges before I finished football, up to my ‘A’ licence, and as I’m still playing part-time, it’s difficult to go into senior football.

“Starting the coaching academy was an idea I had because I had been coaching the younger players in the IFA grassroots in the Derry area, and it was something I felt the town was missing. It was an idea me and Marty McCann, who also coaches with Northern Ireland, had. We decided to give it a go and thankfully it has gone really well and the parents can see, by getting the three extra days’ training, the children are really coming on and progressing and that’s our main aim.

“I’m really enjoying it. The good thing about our academy is that it’s only a training academy. All the lads play for their teams away from us, so we only give them the extra coaching and pass on as much knowledge as we can."

Holder of a UEFA ‘A’ Licence, McCourt hopes this will be his first step on to the coaching and managerial ladder, a new career which he would love to take him back to Celtic, where he’s still revered by supporters.

“Even still to this day whenever I meet Celtic fans, they couldn’t be any nicer, warmer or really complimentary,” explained the Irishman. "It was a great honour for me to represent the club and to still have a special rapport with the fans. And someday, hopefully, I will be back in some capacity to continue it."
