Nir Bitton

Celtic star Nir Bitton has hinted he'd happily sign a new deal at Parkhead.

The midfielder has been in Glasgow for six years already but has no intention of upping sticks.
Manager Neil Lennon signed the Israeli during his first stint in the hotseat.
And he has already revealed he's desperate to keep the versatile 28-year-old beyond his current contract.

But Bitton admits the situation is not in his hands at the moment - though he'd be content if it was.


Asked about a potential extension, Bitton said: "It’s something you need to ask Peter Lawwell instead of me!

"But I love this club and I want to stay.

"I am settled here and my kids live here, so we will see."

 

If Lennon wants to keep him then Lawwell better get his * finger out, yes I’ve been a critic but how much would it cost to replace him. Not just that it’s the various positions he covers aswell.

 

A decent squad player, is good coverage for a few positions, an option to spring when need to close a game out. So well worth a new deal, especially if Lennon feels he wants him

 

Give him a new contract purely to avoid losing him for * all. Could easily fetch 6 mill for him. Decent midfielder.

 

This will be down to how much Bitton will be wanting, he’s on a fairly decent wage that he probably doesn’t deserve now. He was looking an absolute star player under Ronny when we handed him the 5 year contract.

 

He's worth keeping around.

 

He’s a good squad player and utility man to have, but if we could punt Bitton on bring in a proper centre back and holding midfielder I’d be all for it. He’s decent back up in both positions, but not good enough to play regularly in either.

 

Felt he was frozen out under BR where as Lennon rates him and although hasn’t started many games, he’s featured plenty under NL. I’d imagine Lenny has told the board he needs him and I fully expect him to stay. He’s happy here, versatile and “knows the city!” . Despite not being a world better or a bums off seat type player he’s solid and dependable enough to reshuffle our team.

He's 28 and has a young family, who by all accounts appear settled in Scotland. Won't be surprised to see him stay and from a footballing perspective he's a good player to have in the squad.

Ideal squad player, given that he can cover 2 positions, which is always good to have on the bench.

CELTIC are delighted to announce that Nir Bitton has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal which will see him remain at the club until the summer of 2023.

The Israeli internationalist joined Celtic back in August 2013, signing from FC Ashdod, where he’d spent the previous four years. His debut came in a UEFA Champions League group-stage match against AC Milan, and he has gone on to make 202 appearances for the Hoops, scoring 11 goals.

Now 28 and working again with Neil Lennon, who signed him for the club just over six years ago, Bitton has been capped 25 times by his country, and has played 21 games for Celtic this season, most recently in Sunday’s impressive 2-0 home win over Hibernian that restored Celtic’s two point lead at the top of the Premiership table. And, to date, the player has won six league titles during his time at Paradise.

Great to have him for another few years.
