    We tried to sign Shved before he went tin sevilla and someone alerted the club to the chance of signing him due to a clause in his contract and January and by looks of him it’s £2m well spent!

    As I said to @Gabriel, we've undoubtedly had success through the system but it doesn't sit easy with me and plays into Lawwell's ego. The *-swinging between him and the rat last summer was embarrassing. Worse when it came to a backdrop of sitting on a pile of cash while we toiled in Champions League qualifiers.

    Aye, if that's true it doesn't portray our recruitment very well. Reliant on snippets of info on rounds of golf or suggestions from Lawwell's son.

    Not saying we shouldn't have contacts and try find out when there are release clauses or contracts expiring but with a well-run operation that information would be getting passed back to the scouting team to conduct a full appraisal on their suitability.

    We might have won a watch this time with Shved but in the long-run I think there would be far more failures than successes.
