Not necessarily better than those players, but he absolutely terrified and tormented world class defenders at 16/17/18. To me that's what world class is, you cut it with the best and beat them as well.

He was definitely world class at his peak imo.

To me genuine world class is Robben, Ribery, Kaka, Hazard, Silva, De Bruyne, Totti, Del Piero, Rivaldo, Aguero, Tevez etc at their bests to me Rooney was just never as good as any of them, Mbappe for example i'd already say is as good as them.

I think even Carlos Tevez would say Rooney was better than him :giggle1:

I don't think anyone who scores as many screamers as him couldn't be deemed world class imo.

Tevez 4/5 seasons at Man City and Juventus he was quality though. Arguably the star player in their teams who won Leagues and took Juve to the CL final - before then I never thought he had that in him but he did step up and have a few years at the top.

Rooney in his career over all i'd probably rank alongside guys like Costacurta, Carragher, Ambrosini, Cocu, Guardiola, Effenberg, Mata, Luis Enrique, Anelka, Elber, Makaay type guys who were really good for a long time but they never were the Nesta, Ferdinand, Terry, Seedorf, Davids, Pirlo, Gattuso, Silva, Ballack, Hazard, Rivaldo, Drogba, Bergkamp or whoever. All opinions though.

Celtic are in line for a huge fee as Arsenal weigh up a move for Moussa Dembele.

According to L'Equipe, the Gunners are reportedly 'targeting' the striker after an impressive debut season with Lyon, but have not yet made an official approach for the Frenchman.

Dembele joined the Ligue 1 side from Celtic in a £19.8m move on deadline day last summer with the Hoops installing a sell-on clause.

Reports suggests Dembele has a €50m price tag which could rise if the forward continues his fine run of form until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old has netted 15 times this season as Lyon occupy third spot in the league.

The Hoops have cashed in on former players in the past with the club netting a hefty £7.5m when Virgil van Dijk made the switch from Southampton to Liverpool for £75m last year.

Dembele would have some job trying to oust both Aubameyang and Lacazette.

Lacazette and Aubamayang are in the form of their lives, I think that Man United rumour is more credible.

When you list those names I kind of agree with you, but I’d say he’s somewhere in the middle of both groups you mentioned when he was at his very best.

Such a mad partnership, they are doing well at Arsenal now but I still feel they are wasted there.

Aye he would definitely want it inserted but the buying Club need to agree with it and to a certain extent they had the advantage back then. IF we managed to get a 10% sell on clause, far less 15%, the board have done superbly.

    Definitely.

We didn’t need to sell so close to deadline day regardless of Dembele going in the huff. He still had years left on his deal and Lyon were desperate for a striker with the window coming to a close. They weren’t in any better state to negotiate than we were.

    We’ll have at least a 10% clause.

They're both better than him, older and more experienced but itd take a lot of improving for Moussa to oust them

Reports are also saying that Man Utd want him as well! Would love a bidding war for him with a few teams after him and we get another windfall if the reports are correct we have a sell on fee.

Think Man Utd seems more likely, but it's tough to say. MD wants to play CL football and they're out of that running next season.

Still, their performance today against Huddersfield says a lot - Sanchez is incredibly expensive, looks far from fit, and went off injured. Lukaku and Martial injured, too, and looked disinterested a lot of the time this season.

Whatever way the wind blows, I wish MD the best and am glad we have a sell-on clause.
